Wallaceburg sports community struts its stuff....
The Oak's Inn in Wallaceburg was the scene of the 29th annual Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony this past Saturday night and it was full house as almost 400 local sports enthusiasts attended to see a variety of local sports heroes, past and present, honoured for their contributions to the community of Wallaceburg. NHL Hall of Famer, former New York Islander great Billy Smith was the guest speaker, but most who attended were there to pay tribute to people like Mike Childs, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Builder for his work with minor baseball, to Tom Moynihan, who was honoured as Coach of the Year for guiding the local Air Hawks basketball team to the provincial championship last spring. The Wallaceburg Lakers Junior "C" hockey team that dominated local rinks in the late 1990's and battled for the provincial title was also inducted into the Hall. Ken "Crazy Legs" Murphy was the Honourary Chair for the event and it was MCeed by local sporting guru Pete McCarter. The event has not only paid homage to the community's sporting greats for the last 29 years, but also raises significant funds for local charities. Hall of Fame committee member submitted these photos to cktimes....thanks, Todd!!!
