cktimes.ca Archives: Wabash Community BBQ one really big event!!!!!
Originally posted on: Tuesday, August 24, 2010Most people know Wabash as a sleepy little community they pass through on the way from Dresden to Thamesville. But once a year, Wabash comes alive when the Wabash Women's Institute host their annual Community Chicken BBQ. Wabash WI spokesperson Shirley Phillips said the event has been going on for over 50 years and involves a whole bunch of volunteers from the community – the men do the cooking of the chicken and corn and the women do just about everything else. By 4:30 in the afternoon last Thursday a line was beginning to form outside the WI Hall in Wabash as some of 400 folks who would be attending started to arrive. Funds raised go toward maintenance of the Wabash Community Park, to help with the Wabash Scouting troop and for a variety of other community projects.....cktimes' editor John Gardiner has attended the BBQ for several years and he was back there last week.
