Miniature replica of company’s head office provides natural gas safety tips for children

August 21, 2010, CHATHAM, ON – Union Gas today officially unveiled a miniature replica of the company’s head office building – the latest addition to the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village and a key part of this important community safety project.  On hand at the unveiling were Union Gas President Julie Dill, Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village Executive Director Barb Lovell, and representatives from the Chatham-Kent Police Service, Fire Department and EMS.

Built with a donation from Union Gas, the Union Gas building is part of a kid-sized interactive village that provides children with a fun, hands-on way to practice real life skills to reduce the risk of injury due to a preventable incident. More than 6,000 children participate in farm, fire, traffic and other important safety programs at the Safety Village in Chatham-Kent every year.

“Union Gas and its employees are committed to safety both on and off the job and to giving back to the communities where we do business,” said Dill.  “That’s why our support for the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village and six other safety villages across Ontario is such a natural fit for us. We know accidents are preventable – that’s why adopting a safety mindset is essential to accident prevention.”

Including this contribution, Union Gas has committed over six hundred thousand dollars to help safety villages across Ontario realize their vision of reducing childhood injuries by teaching children personal responsibility and awareness about safety.

“Union Gas continues to act as a positive community partner in Chatham-Kent and we value the investments in safety that they continue to make locally and across Ontario,” said Lovell. “This support will make a real impact in terms of improving the safety of children in our community.”
