cktimes.ca Archives: Reminder - Vote for the Ultimate Fishing Town - Chatham-Kent!
Originally posted on: Tuesday, August 24, 2010Chatham-Kent – the Ultimate Fishing Town: if you haven’t voted for Chatham-Kent in the World Fishing Network’s (WFN) “Ultimate Fishing Town” national contest, then now is the time to get started. You can vote online once every twelve hours at http://www.wfn.tv/ultimate-fishing-town/.
Be sure to say “Chatham-Kent” rather than the name of a local community, as we don’t want to split our own vote. We are, after all, one ultimate fishing experience! The most popular town wins a $25 thousand community donation, a half-hour show featuring fishing in the area, and international fame as the Ultimate Fishing Town!
Chatham-Kent’s Economic Development & Tourism Services nominated Chatham-Kent for the contest, saying, “Situated between one of the last musky lakes in existence and the world’s most productive fresh water lake, Chatham-Kent offers anglers world-class sport and game fishing. Lake Erie Located on the eastern shore of Chatham-Kent, Lake Erie is a first-rate fishery for its rare abundance and quality of pickerel, perch and rainbow trout. Considered the top game fish in Canada, walleye is also plentiful in Lake Erie. The lake is accessible from harbours in the scenic fishing villages of Wheatley and Erieau. Anglers can fish in the warmer, shallower openness of Lake St. Clair on the western shore or choose one of several protected tributaries to cast a line for trophy-size musky, pickerel, bass or perch. The hamlet of Mitchell’s Bay is known for ice fishing with perch, bluegill and crappie available a few feet from shore. Fishing communities cater to visitors with convenient services and facilities including full service marinas, accessory stores, restaurants and lodging. Professional charter companies and guide services are also available. Several derbies throughout the season cater to every skill level.”
“It’s time to show off the snapshots of that huge musky you caught,” says Director of Economic Development Kathy Weiss. “Let’s promote Chatham-Kent across the country! Let’s vote on the contest website and share our fishing photos and stories on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and more. Let’s see if we can win this one, just like we did with the Monopoly contest!”
Votes are being accepted at http://www.wfn.tv/ultimate-fishing-town/ right up until 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time on Wednesday September 1. Then, starting September 7, the final round of voting begins. The top two communities from each region will advance to the final round of voting. WFN will select an additional six “wild card” nominations to choose the top ten towns. The community receiving the most votes will be named “WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town”.
