Eric Shaw: Journey Into Sublime
Journey Into Sublime brings together a series of photographic prints by artist Eric Shaw. The works will be on display from September 1 to September 25, 2010, with an opening reception taking place at ARTspace on September 2nd @ 7:00 pm.
Eric Shaw is a Chatham-Kent artist who has placed his focus on creating portraits that capture the nobility and dignity of the subject. Shaw has taken inspiration from his extensive overseas traveling and lifelong fascination with costume to compile a collection of human studies. This series of portraits utilize the human visage as a means of studying character and exploring the role of an individual through costume, expression, and standpoint.
Shaw has also created an installation that re-insinuates the focus of the solo exhibition through the study of the human face. Oversized and fragmented features fill the front ARTspace window gallery.
Shaw studied Theater and History at York University and has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario. Shaw works in various media and is currently working on numerous long-term projects and commissions.

LAST CHANCE TO CHECK OUT FLASH*75 @ ARTspace
Experience and rediscover Chatham-Kent through the lenses of the Chatham Camera Club! In celebration of the Chatham Camera Club’s 75th anniversary ARTspace presents a selection of over forty photographs for an exhibition entitled Flash*75. This exhibition is guest curated by ARTspace advisory board member and artist Hank Bos.
The club photographers create work that offers an array of personal reflections on nostalgia and one’s sense of place. Whether critical, intimate, or introspective these artists delve into their interpretations of their hometown. The result is an interesting mix of photography that takes the viewer from Wallaceburg to Blenheim and everywhere in between.
Bos had the pleasure of selecting a representative group of pictures from a bounty of more than 850 submissions. He commented “we are blessed with busy and attractive towns and villages, as well as beautifully quiet places. We have an abundance of sites for entertainment, sports, recreation, and simple relaxation. These photographers found them all.”
