One of the most progressive rock bands of the 70's was Canada's own A Foot In Cold Water. Formed in 1971 with members from "Nucleus/Island/Lords of London and Leather-- they combined their talents to become "A Foot In Cold Water". In my estimation, AFIC was this country's most under-rated groups of progressive pop sounds and way ahead of its time.

Members were Alex Machin/vocals, Hughie Leggat/bass/acoustic guitar/vocals, Paul Naumann/guitar/vocals, Bob Home/keyboards and Danny Taylor/drums---Alex Machin would later front another Canadian rock group "Moxy"

They are best known for their hit "Make Me Do Anything You Want" and "(Isn't Love Unkind) In My Life" recorded in 1972-73 on Daffodil Records. I remember wearing out my 8-track tapes listening to this great band cruising around in my 73 Camaro. "Make Me Do Anything You Want" hit the top 25 in the Canadian market---they released 4 albums 1st album was called A Foot In Coldwater, Second A Foot In Coldwater, All Around Us and in in 1977 "Breaking Through".

A Foot In Coldwater were also known a AFIC by fans---they had a huge Canadian fan base throughout their run and cracked Billboards Top 10 numerous times. After the 3rd album, AFIC ran into trouble when Daffodil records went bankrupt, group tensions created problems and Bob Horne eventually left the band. In 1975 they were picked up by Anthem Records, who had Rush and Max Webster on their roster---they released a single "Midnight Lady" and their last album Breaking Through.

Going their separate ways in 1977, Hugh Leggat formed "ThunderRoad" with his brother---Alex Machin was with Champion in '85 and went solo Sin Sensation/I'd Lie To You For Love and Moxy touring in 2002. Danny Taylor owned a furniture/carpet cleaning business, Paul Naumann lived in Texas and Toronto, continues playing and producing music and Bob Horne moved to Las Vegas and is an award winning pool designer and builder. Also the Leggat brothers new act is called the Mississippi Hippies.

They have reunited several times over the years to the delight of many and their unique sound will live on forever as I know of no other band that sounded quite like them. Check out their double cd Best of on Unidisc music covering 1972-75 Love Production and Daffodil cuts, you won't be disappointed.
