Russian Album Release Spanish Treacle Album Release Sticky Fingers 8 Track + Case  Sticky Fingers CD LTD Sticky Fingers CD LTD Sticky Fingers Pants Sticky Fingers Album Imports
Bootleg Recordings CD Holland Special Release

The Rolling Stones "Sticky Fingers" Album cover was designed by Andy Warhol. This is the first time the Rolling Stones Tongue is used and will become one of the world's most recognized brand label. "Brown Sugar" (original title Black Pussy) is No.1 in the UK for 27 weeks and No.1 in the US for 25 Weeks. The pants album cover, complete with working zipper, has model Jed Johnson on the front-cover in jeans and Glenn O'Brien mode ling the under ware on the inside cover. Spain considered the cover to subversive so an even stickier version was substituted--the treacle can. In Russia, they released a version using a female model for the blue jean photo. Rolling Stones magazine rates this album as the all time greatest album cover in Rock 'n' Roll.

Brown Sugar:  This is the single, a fast one, made over a long period of time at Muscle Shoals in Alabama,  and completed at Olympic Studios---the complete rock anthem.

Sway: Recorded in two days at Olympic Studios with Nicky Hopkins on piano

Wild Horses: Mick's favourite ballad another country flavoured classic--This Kieth composition began as a lullaby for his 2 month old son and when Mick completed the lyrics "Wild Horses Couldn't Drag Me Away" were all he kept of Kieth's lyrics, the rest of the song is about Mick and Marianne's relationship.

Can't You Hear Me Knockin: What an opening riff, Mr. Keith Riffhard at his best--some of the best grooves in rock fill this track---Mick Taylor layers the song with his solos--Bobby Keys rocks on sax with jazzy honking Latin conga rhythms--this is one of my favourites on the album

You Gotta Move: What a great strong blues number--Mississippi Fred McDowell---a great harmonica and sing along tune---recorded at Olympic Studio '69

Bitch: Well another tune to get the Women's Liberators pissed off---Mick quotes, "Our tribute to all dog lovers" a great singles number---both Brown Sugar and Bitch were the opening numbers on the '76 tour

I Got The Blues: Keith gets to shine here on vocals, a great listen---recorded in the Stones mobile van on Mick's lawn near Reading.

Sister Morphine: Well, no way this song is going to get much airplay with the that title---Marianne Faithful came up with the lyrics of a dying man crying out desperately for morphine---Mick had the rhythm tracks for the guitar from back in '68---Ry Cooder plays bottleneck guitar.

Dead Flowers: A Country Song  a twin to Far Away Eyes in the country market---"I'll be in my basement room, with a needle and a spoon, and another girl to take my pain away" lyrics don't get any better than that---a country blues song covered by a lot of bands today.

Moonlight Mile: The first title was "The Japanese Thing" a sweet rich song---another favourite of mine off this album. Lush string arrangement and slow rhythm make this a great tune to vision a sunset or sunrise in a half-asleep mode--what a song to end the album on---song positioning is most important.

From my Stones collection: The Holland Sticky Fingers photo is autographed by Mick Taylor and comes in a cloth (flour sack material) 1 of 1000--an 8-track with slip case---wooden lips shaped box 1 of 1000--once again a bootleg cd with outtakes and different versions of the Sticky Fingers tracks. A collection of Sticky Fingers albums--from USSR, multicoloured disc--Japan and Korea issues---45 of Brown Sugar in picture disc pants

Well I hope you enjoyed reading this weeks Stones Masterpiece. I think Mick and Keith reached another level in their songwriting partnership with this country-blues tinged album.
