Valdy to highlight fall entertainment season at Glass Onion Folk Club

Tuesday, August 31, 2004

Renowned Canadian singer/songwriter Valdy will perform in the intimate confines of Wallaceburg's 120-seat Jeanne Gordon Theatre on Saturday, November 20 at 8:00 p.m. as the Wallaceburg Arts Council's Glass Onion Folk Club springs back into action for another year.

Valdy has been and continues to be one of Canada's most endearing performers. He is rarely seen in a venue as ideally suited to his warm and engaging on-stage personality as the Jeanne Gordon Theatre. The show promises to be one of the highlites of the fall entertainment schedule in Chatham-Kent.

"We are extremely fortunate to be able to present a performer of this calibre in Wallaceburg," said Glass Onion Folk Club organizer John Gardiner. "I came of age listening to Valdy and for me he's one of the singer/songwriters who has helped define the Canadian music scene. I'm very excited about the show."

The Glass Onion Folk Club is sponsored by the Wallaceburg and District Council for the Arts and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Over the past 10 years, a who's who of Canadian folk and blues music have appeared on the Glass Oniion stage. Performers like Cedric Smith, David Bradstreet, Quartette, Rick Fines and Harry Manx have appeared.

The Arts Council is an important part of the local community. In addition to the Glass Onion, it has sponsored elementary school performances, it organizes a successful Art in the Park at WAMBO each year and it has helped sponsor local events like the Great Big Music Gig and the Wallaceburg Community Christmas.

Tickets for the Valdy show can be obtained by calling the Wallaceburg and District Museum at 519-627-8962 and they are on sale now. Seating is limited but can be reserved for groups of eight or more. There will be a cash bar provided by the Oak's Inn. For further information, call John at 519-627-5978.
