Rick Fines and Suzie Vinnick

The Wallaceburg and District Council for the Arts and George and Mary Jane Smith of Smith & Wilson Estate Wines in Cedar Springs will present Chatham-Kent's first acoustic blues festival on Saturday, September 23, 2006 when Maple Blues Award winners Rick Fines and Suzie Vinnick headline the first Grapejam Acoustic Blues Festival.

Outstanding Chatham bluesman Michael Schatte, one of London's premier roots blues artists Tim Woodcock and master blues harpist Robbie Antoine will join Fines and Vinnick to present an outstanding afternoon of blues among the ripening grape vines at Smith & Wilson Estate Wines in Cedar Springs. The event will run from 12:00 to 6:00p.m. with the music beginning at 1:00 p.m.

While there are plenty of blues festivals around these days, the Wallaceburg Arts Council wanted to do something a little different so it decided on an acoustic approach. "We want people to enjoy a very mellow afternoon at one of Southwestern Ontario's newest wineries, but one that is quickly acquiring a reputation for producing quality vintages," said the Arts Council's John Gardiner. "We've assembled some really outstanding talent for the afternoon – some of the best players we could get."

Rick Fines has been voted Acoustic Act of the Year twice at the Maple Blues Awards and Suzie Vinnick has been awarded Female Vocalist of the Year – together they are a dynamite duo with soaring vocals and outstanding instrumentation. Michael Schatte is well-known as one of the best blues guitarists ever to come out of Chatham-Kent and it will be a special treat to see him up close and personal at Grapejam.

Tim Woodcock is one of the finest and most respected bluesmen in Southern Ontario. He is a fixture on the London blues scene and like a fine wine gets better with age. Robbie Antoine is one of the brightest young lights on the Canadian blues scene – outstanding blues harpist and passionate songwriter.

"We're inviting music lovers from across Southwestern Ontario to come out for a truly memorable experience," Gardiner said. "This is such a great opportunity to showcase some great blues talent, most of it from right in our own backyard, and also one of Chatham-Kent's newest treasures, Smith & Wilson Estate Wines."

Tickets for Grapejam are $30/person and may be obtained at Tony's One Stop Music Shoppe in Chatham (519-351-4885), Aug's Video in Blenheim (519-676-8801), Smith & Wilson Estate Wines (519-676-5867) or by calling 519-627-5978.
