Bustin' It With the Blues II to benefit Green Glow Girls

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

A group of Chatham-Kent musicians are joining forces with Wallaceburg's cancer fundraising group, the Green Glow Girls, to help raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society's annual Relay of Life event to be held in June. Bustin' It With the Blues II will be held Saturday, April 26 at the Oak's Inn in Wallaceburg and will feature two of the area's finest blues bands, the Southwest Blues Review and True Blue Hoodoo.

The special event is a sequel to the highly successful Bustin' It With the Blues event that was held last March at the Oak's Inn and raised nearly $5,000 in the battle to make cancer history. Again this year, a dozen talented performers will present a full evening of the blues, accented by the fundraising talents of the Green Glow Girls.

The Green Glow Girls have been raising money to fight cancer for the last six years and have been highly successful in the community of Wallaceburg. Annual trips to the big Relay for Life event in Chatham has garnered them several spirit awards. This year, the Girls have extra incentive to raise funds because CKSY radio personality Greg Hetherington will be shaving his head if they raise the required amount of cash – $18,000.

The musicians participating in Bustin' It With the Blues II represent a true cross section of the musical talent available in Chatham-Kent with performers from Ridgetown, Blenheim, Cedar Springs, Chatham, Erieau, Wallaceburg and the Walpole Island First Nation. It is also hoped that several special guests will be added for the evening but organizers are waiting for confirmation.

"We're hoping blues fans from across Chatham-Kent and beyond will come out for a great evening of music," said organizer John Gardiner, who will play bass in both bands. "The event just went so well last year that we decided to repeat and, hopefully, raise quite a bit of money for the Green Glow Girls. We're absolutely thrilled to be partnered with them and hope to help give Greg Hetherington a close shave."

Tickets for the event are available at the Oak's Inn in Wallaceburg (519-627-1433), Aug's Video in Blenheim (519-676-8801) and Tony's One Stoppe Music Shop in Chatham (519-351-4885 and event information is available by calling 519-627-5978. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., tickets are $10.00 and there will be a cash bar.
