THE BALDOON SQUARES, a square dance and round Dance group, meet at Wallaceburg District Secondary School cafeteria. Usually a light lunch follows the dance. Membership is free for the first three weeks of attendance. Call George Lung at 683-2889 for information.

The Kiwanis Club of Ridgetown meets weekly in the basement of the Mount Zion Presbyterian Church, 59 Main St. E., Ridgetown. Summer meetings are hosted by members at various local addresses.

TEENS ROCK for teenagers in grades 7 - 10 meets at the Gym at Charlemont Free Methodist Church, 30127 Brigden Road, R.R.#5, Wallaceburg for basketball, volleyball, soccer, table games, outdoor games, campfires, cookouts, camping trips, community service projects and more. Let’s Cook, a free community program for children and youth, will continue its fifth year of programming in 2009 thanks to funding from Healthy Living Chatham-Kent and various community partners. "We are very pleased to have kitchen facilities donated by the Dresden Christian Reformed Church; we couldn't run the program without such wonderful space", says Wendy Goodreau, Program Coordinator. Students, ages 8 to 17, are invited to join the cooking classes at the Dresden Christian Reformed Church, 956 Mooney Street in Dresden. The FREE classes are held the last Monday of each month from February to December and from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Students will learn hands-on food preparation and cooking skills in a fun environment while focusing on nutrition and safety. After school snacks and dinner are provided for the students. To register, please contact Wendy Goodreau, at 519-683-2825. “Be sure to call early as spaces are limited and they do fill up fast”, says Goodreau. The first class starts February 23, however students may join at any time.

Located in the Region of Chatham-Kent, Tulip Tree Needlearts is a chapter of the
Embroiderersí Association of Canada www.eac.ca. The aim of the organization is to preserve traditional techniques and promote new challenges in the Art of Embroidery through education and networking. Meetings are the 4th Tuesday of every month. For information on meetings or classes please phone 519 674-5538 or 519 354-8590. Workshops are designed to offer members an opportunity to learn both new and advanced methods of needlework. Projects and Classes are ongoing throughout the year. Stitch-ins are held regularly in members homes throughout the region of Chatham-Kent. These offer an opportunity for members to share expertise and ideas. Tulip Tree Needlearts offers group and individual courses through the Embroiderersí Association of Canada. Membership is $50.00 and includes a subscription to the quarterly national magazine Embroidery Canada.

Heritage Pavilion Stage has commissioned and is producing a sequel to its very popular historical play "And Freedom for All". The new play, called "Freedom Belles", builds on the original by dealing with the womenís experience of the Underground Railroad and the establishment of a black community in south-western Ontario. What is new is that this play introduces the female historical characters, who are referred to in the earlier play, and lets them tell the story in their own voices. A school tour as well as public performances at St. Andrew's United Church in South Buxton will run during Black History Month - February 2009. Dinner and performance tickets are available for Friday and Saturday, February 6th and 7th and also for Friday February 13th. A special Sunday afternoon performance and ìcast partyî is scheduled for Sunday February 8th at 3 pm. Stories and Songs for Sweethearts will be presented at Thamesville United Church – a unique evening of words and music presented in part by the Thamesville Rotary Club and Thamesville United Church. Chatham-Kent author John Gardiner will read original poetry and fiction and Richard Knechtel and the vocal group Dulce Jubilo will present music......a good way to treat your sweetheart. The Create CK Kick-Off will take place on Wednesday, February 18 at 4:00pm. Participants will enjoy a light supper while being engaged in activities to further their knowledge about our community and how we can create a better Chatham-Kent. All participants will be able to discover what a Community Action Team (CAT) is, and join a team. The cost to participate is $15, and the evening will take place from 4pm to 8pm. Participants wishing to take part in the pre-kick off business seminar, ìThe Business of Art ì, a seminar geared to Artists may participate in both events for $20. There will be a house concert on Saturday, February 21, at 7:30 pm at St Matthew's Parish Hall on Fansher Street in Florence. The tickets are $20 each. If you phone 519-692-5260 I'll mark you down for tickets.The Alfredo Caxaj Latin Ensemble is a vibrant, exciting small ensemble that has performed all over Ontario throughout the last 10 years. The music of Cuba, Colombia, and the Caribbean Islands is featured in Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Cha Cha and many other styles of song. All members are originally from the large salsa band, "Herencia Latina", one of the first Salsa bands in Canada formed over 20 years ago and based in London.

Talbot Street United Church is having their Annual Pancake Supper. It will be held on Sunday February 22 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. The cost is Adults $10.00, 6-12 years $5.00, 5 and under is free. The Blenheim-Harwich Horticultural Society is gearing up for another great year of gardening. This month the Society has special guest speaker Randall Van Wagner from the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority. The topic will be on a healthy environment, good water quality and preservation of conservation lands. Important information for everyone! Find out what a unique eco-system exists right in our own backyards! Come and enjoy an evening of discovering the joys of gardening and meeting others. The C-K film group is presenting Deepa Mehta's film, "Heaven on Earth," on Monday, March 2, 2009 at 6:45 P.M. The film will be shown at Chatham Cinema Six. Moviegoers are advised to try to get their tickets in advance at the William Street Cafe to avoid disappointment and/or long lines the night of the movie, due to our sell-out in February. The film is about the young bride in an arranged marriage and how she creates a paradise in her own mind to escape the physical and mental abuse of her husband. Have you ever wanted to go on safari, to come face to face with a lion or an elephant? If so, enjoy ARTspace's next exhibit by local photographer Ken Tremblay. Tremblay has been an amateur photographer for years. In high school, he was member of the Photography Club, often taking and processing photos in the club's darkroom for the school's annual yearbook. Tremblay has always presented his works as gifts, including wedding photography and favourite images from his travels. Ken Tremblay's Bucket List: Serengeti Unplugged opens on March 5, 2009, with the opening reception taking place at 7pm. ARTspace is located at 165 1/2 King Street in downtown Chatham, Ontario. ARTspace is open 12pm-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. ARTspace is a Thames Art Gallery community arts initiative in partnership with the Community Futures Development Corporation and Municipality of Chatham-Kent Community Partnership Fund.

Typically held close to Valentines' Day, the event moves to March 28 this year. 2010 should see a return of the February date. Live and silent auctions, the legendary "Wine" raffle, and other fundraising activities will be part of the eveningís festivities. Lexie Martin, Auction Convener has had an impressive response for auction donations. "Businesses have been very generous," says Martin, "VIA Rail donated four first class train tickets return to Toronto valued at over $1,000." The Kiwanis Theatre is pleased to present a night of Egyptian dance on Saturday, May 2, 2009. In partnership with local dancers, 1001 Nights "Alf Leyla Wa Leyla" will take you on a journey back in time along the banks of the Nile River to ancient Egypt where Pharaohs ruled the land. Megan Robbins and Susu Abdo invite you to explore this mystifying and exotic culture through the ancient art of Egyptian belly dance. Experience the many styles of belly dance from regional belly artists and students. A themed dinner catered by William Street CafÈ will be presented prior to the performance.
