This fall, we welcome back our popular Art and Wine evenings. Join us in Studio 1 of the Chatham Cultural Centre for fancy snacks and featured beverages. We begin on September 2nd with Johannes Vermeer’s The Art of Painting. On the second Wednesday, we will discuss The Battle of San Romano, painted by the Early Renaissance artist Paolo Ucello. September 16th will feature the seminal cubist work Les Demoiselles d’Avignon by Pablo Picasso. The last work in this series will be A Sunday on La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat. Please join us Wednesday evenings September 2, 9, 16 and 23 at 7 p.m. in Studio 1 at the Chatham Cultural Centre. Tickets are $10 per evening or $40 for all four evenings (with a membership discount available). for fibre artists! The cost is 25¢ payable at the door. What, you ask, is a fibre artist? A fibre artist works with natural or synthetic fibres; he may knit or crochet, she may work with collage, they may weave or dye material. At the Fibre Network night artisans will
bring their projects to work on, supplies to create artist trading cards will be available, ideas and techniques will be shared and artists will socialize while being productive. Join the Wii Bowling League at the Wallaceburg Seniors’ Community Centre. No stairs to climb. This can be done sitting in a chair if you are unable to stand. A FUN SOCIAL 2 HOURS. All gaming equipment will be provided. No prior experience with the Wii console is necessary. The league using the Wii electronic game console will be composed of two-person teams. Teams do not have to attend every week, but will need to attend enough days to complete the league schedule. Teams will vie for the “Golden Shoes” Trophy . Located in the Region of Chatham-Kent, Tulip Tree Needlearts is a chapter of the
Embroiderersí Association of Canada www.eac.ca. The aim of the organization is to preserve traditional techniques and promote new challenges in the Art of Embroidery through education and networking. Meetings are the 4th Tuesday of every month. For information on meetings or classes please phone 519 674-5538 or 519 354-8590. Workshops are designed to offer members an opportunity to learn both new and advanced methods of needlework. Projects and Classes are ongoing throughout the year. Stitch-ins are held regularly in members homes throughout the region of Chatham-Kent. These offer an opportunity for members to share expertise and ideas. Tulip Tree Needlearts offers group and individual courses through the Embroiderersí Association of Canada. Membership is $50.00 and includes a subscription to the quarterly national magazine Embroidery Canada.

The 2009/2010 Friday Night Jazz Series gets underway in Studio One of the Cultural Centre. Performing with bass player Ed LaPorte and drummer Pat Crone, local jazz pianist Ken Krohn invites a different guest to each performance to jam for the audience in the very intimate setting of Studio One. This show will feature a newcomer to the Series, jazz vocalist Jennifer Thorpe, an accomplished musician, vocalist, and a respected writer with over 30 years’ experience. As a performer, Jennifer combines a love of standards and early blues and jazz with rearrangements of songs by Canadian musicians. “The Collected Works of Larry Towell”. Larry Towell is a world-renowned photojournalist from Wallaceburg (currently near Bothwell) and this will be a homecoming concert for him. He will be presenting his work on a large screen and he will also accompany them with readings and music. As well, harmonica virtuoso Mike Stevens who is from Bright's Grove will be joining Larry as part of the concert. This show takes place in the Jeanne Gordon Theatre (505 King Street, Wallaceburg). Tickets are $20 each. Coffee, tea and water will be served at the show. Afterwards, a reception will be held at the Oak's Inn where Larry will sign copies of his new book, "The World From My Front Porch". Brent Butt is bringing his comedic talents to the Kiwanis Theatre. In addition to bit acting parts in various productions and hosting the Juno Awards (2005), Brent has become a regular at Just for Laughs. Aside from his own national special Bedtime with Brent Butt, he has been seen on A&E, HBO, CBC, CTV, and Global. He was named “Best Male Stand-Up in Canada” at the 2001 Canadian Comedy Awards and was subsequently selected to represent Canada on the World Comedy Tour in Australia.
It was his role in the TV series Corner Gas that really made use of his multiple talents.

part of Care For Carbon Carolinian Forest. Cost: Free. The Naturalized Habitat Network of Essex County and Windsor has selected Two Creeks Conservation Area in Wheatley for this year's popular Eco-Tour. The free tour will get under way at 1:30 p.m. with
knowledgeable representatives from both the Habitat Network and the Wheatley Two Creeks Association, a volunteer organization that manages the 85-acre conservation area, which is just north of Wheatley on Kent Road 1. Across Canada, over one million people have enjoyed the Canadian Raptor Conservancy’s flight shows. The Chatham-Kent Museum is proud to announce that it will host the Conservancy in Studio One of the Cultural Centre. The Conservancy’s Birds of Prey demonstration will include birds that are trained for free flight. At least five different Birds of Prey will be included in the presentation. Three of the birds will also be included in the flight demonstration, as each bird is unique in its own appearance and flight styles. As each bird is flying, the handler/interpreter will give an educational commentary about each one. Tickets for this wildlife show are $10 each with discounts available to Cultural Centre members. As part of the Chatham-Kent Museum’s festival MummyFest, the Kiwanis Theatre will be showing the 1932 film classic, The Mummy, starring Boris Karloff. Also showing will be The Mummy’s Hand (1940), The Mummy’s Tomb (1942), The Mummy’s Ghost (1944), and The Mummy’s Curse (1944). These movies are the landmark films that inspired an entire genre of movies and continue to be major influences on motion pictures to this day. MummyFest, a day-long celebration hosted by the Chatham-Kent Museum, will also feature mummy-themed fun in Studio One. There will be an out-of-town ‘guest’ mummy on display, as well as mummy-themed merchandise, reconstruction casts and other sculptures. Kids can paint their faces like an Egyptian and make a mummy mask. Adults can enjoy a cold MummyMartini at the cash bar. Wrapped snacks will also be available. AUDITION CALL - Running to Detroit' Audio Drama
Dave Carley one of Canada's leading Playwrights and Radio Dramatists scripted this thirty minute audio drama especially for Voices In The Wind Audio Theatre. Dave's works have been produced across Canada and the United States, as well as many countries around the world. Joey Ouellette, Artistic Director of the Purple Theatre Company (Windsor) has been chosen to Direct and Cast the production. Arrangements have been made to broadcast the audio drama on CFCO AM 630/92.9 FM sometime during the Winter of 2010. The weekend of January 16th/17th has been tentatively scheduled for the recording in Studio One at the Chatham Cultural Centre. Auditions will be held at 40 Trillium Village (11 story rectangular building) 1st Floor Activity Room.

Elk, bison and other game meats will be on the menu as the Retro Suites Hotel hosts its first-ever Hunter’s Feast. The Chilled Food Emporium and Wine Bar will prepare the buffet dinner. The Cultural Coalition of Chatham-Kent (CCC-K) is hosting “A Multicultural Thanksgiving Brunch”. This will be a great opportunity to enjoy a variety of ethnic foods and learn about the cultures of our fellow Chatham-Kent residents. Proceeds from the brunch will support CCC-K’s programs and services to welcome, integrate and support all cultural groups and newcomers to Chatham-Kent. The event is taking place at the Active Lifestyle Centre on Merritt Avenue in Chatham. Attendees can arrive anytime between 11:30 am to 1:30 pm to sample delicious foods from around the world. “Tastes of Fall – a feast for the senses” is the Harvest Event at Longwoods. Celebrate the autumn season with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority at Ska-Nah-Doht Village and Museum in Longwoods Road Conservation Area! There will be fun activities for the whole family. Free with your paid admission, sample corn soup and fry bread. You can make a clay pot. There will be pumpkin painting for children just in time for Halloween. Challenge your friends to squash bowling and win a hand made corn husk doll. Make sure you leave time for a wagon ride through the park to view the fall colours. There will be live performances throughout the afternoon by the White Pine Dancers, a visually stunning presentation of “The Creation of Turtle Island” to show children of all ages to learn how animals can teach us to respect our natural environment, and Stone Toolmaking demonstrations. Try the stone tool puzzles and games. Visit the cabin area to see art demonstrations by the Strathroy Arts Group. Visit one of the many vendors featuring First Nations handmade crafts and drums, flower arrangements, bird carvings and one of a kind stain glass. Take a trip back in time as you tour Ska-Nah-Doht with its recreated longhouses and palisade maze. The fires will be burning to add to the atmosphere and makes a unique photo opportunity. Hike the 6 km of nature trails and take the suspension bridge over to the marsh boardwalk. Bring your own picnic or buy your lunch at the food booth. Admissions are $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for youth and FREE for those under 6 or pay the Family Rate $20.00 (2 adults and 2 or more children). Take a Bow Productions presents the Broadway rock musical, RENT. Winner of nearly every major industry award, including the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical, RENT continues to be a cornerstone of modern American musical theatre. RENT first opened at the off-Broadway, New York Theatre Workshop. Ralphie¹s quest for a Red Ryder BB Gun comes to life as this favourite holiday film hits the stage. The play is adapted by Philip Grecian from the film and moemoir by Jean Shepherd and will be directed by Karen Robinet.

The original Olympic flame will be travelling from Athens, Greece and making its journey across Canada, in an effort to “light the land, generate pride in our nation, and celebrate the possible!” The Olympic flame will be passing through a number of Chatham-Kent communities over a three day period, and will be stopping overnight for a very special “cauldron lighting” ceremony in Chatham on December 22, 2009. To celebrate this historic moment, the municipality will be hosting a free full-day event to showcase, honour, and celebrate our community’s cultural diversity, heritage, local accomplishments, and community champions. Taking place at the Kinsmen Auditorium and Memorial Arena, from 12 p.m. until approximately 10:30 p.m., this event includes a full day of free family activities, performances, art demonstrations, and sporting events.
