ARTspace is pleased to announce that we will be hosting networking events
for fibre artists! The cost is 25¢ payable at the door. What, you ask, is a fibre artist? A fibre artist works with natural or synthetic fibres; he may knit or crochet, she may work with collage, they may weave or dye material. At the Fibre Network night artisans will
bring their projects to work on, supplies to create artist trading cards will be available, ideas and techniques will be shared and artists will socialize while being productive. Wednesday afternoons or Friday mornings
Join the Wii Bowling League at the Wallaceburg Seniors’ Community Centre. No stairs to climb. This can be done sitting in a chair if you are unable to stand. A FUN SOCIAL 2 HOURS. All gaming equipment will be provided. No prior experience with the Wii console is necessary. The league ­ using the Wii electronic game console ­will be composed of two-person teams. Teams do not have to attend every week, but will need to attend enough days to complete the league schedule. Teams will vie for the “Golden Shoes” Trophy . Less impressive prizes will be handed out to the teams managing the best average score, the best single game score and whatever other milestones or achievements we deem worthy, Sign up dead line by: Oct. 2nd. Fourth Wednesday of every Month
Located in the Region of Chatham-Kent, Tulip Tree Needlearts is a chapter of the
Embroiderersí Association of Canada www.eac.ca. The aim of the organization is to preserve traditional techniques and promote new challenges in the Art of Embroidery through education and networking. Meetings are the 4th Tuesday of every month. For information on meetings or classes please phone 519 674-5538 or 519 354-8590. Workshops are designed to offer members an opportunity to learn both new and advanced methods of needlework. Projects and Classes are ongoing throughout the year. Stitch-ins are held regularly in members homes throughout the region of Chatham-Kent. These offer an opportunity for members to share expertise and ideas. Tulip Tree Needlearts offers group and individual courses through the Embroiderersí Association of Canada. Membership is $50.00 and includes a subscription to the quarterly national magazine Embroidery Canada.

Tuesday Oct. 6 and Wednesday Oct 7, 9:00 a.m.
The Kent High School Tennis tournament is scheduled to occur at the Joseph Carpenter Courts (Chatham Tennis Club), beginning at 9:00. Without knowing a definite time, the finals will occur at about 2:30-4:00. On Tuesday, Girls Singles, Girls Doubles, and Mixed Doubles will be played. On Wednesday, Boys Singles and Boys Doubles will be played. If weather is an issue, and one day is rained out, the rain date is Thursday, Oct 8. If both days get rained out, the rain dates are Oct 13 and 14th.

Tonight is the first meeting of “Leisure Time”- a monthly book club meeting the first Thursday of each month at the Wallaceburg Seniors’ Community Centre. A book club is a reading group--usually consisting of a number of readers who read and talk about books based on a topic or an agreed-upon reading list. You’re invited to the local CD Release Party of the year! The Chatham-Kent Mountaineers are celebrating the release of their debut album, “Feed ‘em Their Teeth”. The Mountaineers are a “made-in-Chatham-Kent” product, with the entire band born and raised in Chatham, Blenheim, Tilbury, Rondeau and Erie Beach. The Chatham-Kent Mountaineer sound focuses primarily on Celtic and Canadian East Coast influences, in addition to one of its main functions as Irish beer-drinking music. Those who enjoy bands like Great Big Sea, Spirit of the West, the Young Dubliners and the Dropkick Murphys as well as the more traditional music of the Maritimes are sure to enjoy the high energy shows the Mountaineers have become renowned for. The Mountaineers are: Dan Davidson (drums), Stew Morton (vocals, guitar), Kevin O’Brien (bass, vocals), Rob Rankin (banjo, mandolin), Mark Stacey (vocals, guitar) and Alysson Storey (fiddle, flute, vocals). The Mountaineers are pleased to announce they will be holding a CD Release Party for their debut album on Friday, October 9th at 8.30 p.m. in Studio One at the Chatham Cultural Centre, 75 William Street North in Chatham. The Kiwanis Theatre is proud to announce that Michael Schatte and His Band will perform a CD Release Concert tonight.  Schatte is well known as a skilled and fiery guitarist, singer, and songwriter, and with the help of his electric band he’ll be showcasing original material from his new album entitled Crow Filled Sky, and much more!  This 15-track CD boasts a diverse collection of catchy songs spanning rock, blues, and folk and showcases Schatte’s unique lyricism and exceptional instrumental talent.  Those who attend on October 15th can expect an intimate yet high-energy concert full of compelling songs and first-rate musicianship. Friday, October 16, 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
As part of the Chatham-Kent Museum’s festival MummyFest, the Kiwanis Theatre will be showing the 1932 film classic, The Mummy, starring Boris Karloff. Also showing will be The Mummy’s Hand (1940), The Mummy’s Tomb (1942), The Mummy’s Ghost (1944), and The Mummy’s Curse (1944).  These movies are the landmark films that inspired an entire genre of movies and continue to be major influences on motion pictures to this day.  MummyFest, a day-long celebration hosted by the Chatham-Kent Museum, will also feature mummy-themed fun in Studio One.  There will be an out-of-town ‘guest’ mummy on display, as well as mummy-themed merchandise, reconstruction casts and other sculptures.  Kids can paint their faces like an Egyptian and make a mummy mask.  Adults can enjoy a cold MummyMartini at the cash bar.  Wrapped snacks will also be available.  There is mummy fun for the whole family!  Parental guidance is suggested for the mummy movies shown in the Kiwanis Theatre. Get a head start on your Hallowe’en thrills!  Come see The Mummy as it was meant to be seen- on the big screen! MummyFest pricing for an all-day pass is $10 for adults, and $5 for a child under 10.  To purchase your MummyFest all-day pass, please call the box office at 519.354.8338, visit us at 75 William Street North, or log onto www.cktickets.com

AUDITION CALL - Running to Detroit' Audio Drama
Dave Carley one of Canada's leading Playwrights and Radio Dramatists scripted this thirty minute audio drama especially for Voices In The Wind Audio Theatre. Dave's works have been produced across Canada and the United States, as well as many countries around the world. Joey Ouellette, Artistic Director of the Purple Theatre Company (Windsor) has been chosen to Direct and Cast the production. Arrangements have been made to broadcast the audio drama on CFCO AM 630/92.9 FM sometime during the Winter of 2010. The weekend of January 16th/17th has been tentatively scheduled for the recording in Studio One at the Chatham Cultural Centre. Auditions will be held at 40 Trillium Village (11 story rectangular building) 1st Floor Activity Room.

Elk, bison and other game meats will be on the menu as the Retro Suites Hotel hosts its first-ever Hunter’s Feast. The Chilled Food Emporium and Wine Bar will prepare the buffet dinner. A portion of the night’s proceeds will be donated to the Kent Cloverleaf Conservation Club. “The event is an excellent opportunity to sample non-traditional meats prepared using a variety of methods,” said Ron Laroche, the hotel’s Marketing Director. “It’s really a dinner for those that enjoy the spoils of the great hunt without having to chase their prey.” Tickets are $40 per person and are available at the Retro Suites Hotel. The Cultural Coalition of Chatham-Kent (CCC-K) is hosting “A Multicultural Thanksgiving Brunch”. This will be a great opportunity to enjoy a variety of ethnic foods and learn about the cultures of our fellow Chatham-Kent residents. Proceeds from the brunch will support CCC-K’s programs and services to welcome, integrate and support all cultural groups and newcomers to Chatham-Kent. The event is taking place at the Active Lifestyle Centre on Merritt Avenue in Chatham. Attendees can arrive anytime between 11:30 am to 1:30 pm to sample delicious foods from around the world. “Tastes of Fall – a feast for the senses” is the Harvest Event at Longwoods. Celebrate the autumn season with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority at Ska-Nah-Doht Village and Museum in Longwoods Road Conservation Area! There will be fun activities for the whole family. Free with your paid admission, sample corn soup and fry bread. You can make a clay pot. There will be pumpkin painting for children just in time for Halloween. Challenge your friends to squash bowling and win a hand made corn husk doll. Make sure you leave time for a wagon ride through the park to view the fall colours. There will be live performances throughout the afternoon by the White Pine Dancers, a visually stunning presentation of “The Creation of Turtle Island” to show children of all ages to learn how animals can teach us to respect our natural environment, and Stone Toolmaking demonstrations. Perry Molema, who owned Colonial Nurseries in Chatham for many years and recently brought the Chicago based AquaScape Inc to Canada and serving in the capacity of Canadian Sales Director, is this month’s guest speaker at the Blenheim Horticultural Society. Perry will be sharing new concepts in water harvesting and other green gardening topics. Perry will show us how to reduce our carbon footprints and contribute to the positive environmental aspects and pro-conservation issues.
The presentation will take place on Monday, October 19th in the basement hall at Trinity Anglican Church, 100 Ellen St., Blenheim at 7:30pm. Everyone is welcomed.

ERIE RIDGE C.A.T. INVITES YOU TO NETWORKING PARTY 
Chatham-Kent’s creative community living or working along Lake Erie from Buxton to Palmyra is invited to an evening of art networking and cultural mapping. This will be one of the first chances to experience Smith & Wilson Estate Winery’s new facilities at 8368 Water Street west of Blenheim on Highway #3. The event is being planned by the Erie Ridge Cultural Action Team (CAT). Organisers encourage writers, actors, musicians, visual artists, designers, architects, magicians, crafters, photographers, quilters, framers, journalists – and more - to attend. If you are creative, come and join other like-minded people to meet members of the CAT team. You will be invited to place a colour-coded dot on an Erie Ridge CAT map so by the end of the evening clusters of artists/artisans and supporters will emerge. The information will be used to encourage the development of businesses which support and respond to the creative economy. You may be surprised to find how many artists and art-related businesses exist in our community already. There is no cover charge for this event. 3D Recycled Sculpture Kids Art Class with Irene MacCreadie! Hey kids! Let's make Bugs and Crawly Creatures and build their habitats!  Get messy with the Thames Art Gallery and Irene MacCreadie and learn more about the creatures outside your door!  As a class, the students will create larger than life-sized habitats for smaller creatures using paint, cardboard boxes and paper mache. Out of recycled materials, students will then create the spiders, mice, insects or snakes that will live in their new habitats. Local artist Irene MacCreadie will take kids ages 5-7 on an adventure to the forest floor to learn about the creatures and habitats they live in.  Classes are in Studio 2 of the Chatham Cultural Centre. Theatre Kent¹s season kicks off its season with the musical Evita. This musical masterpiece by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice tells the story of the controversial first lady of Argentina. Take a Bow Productions presents the Broadway rock musical, RENT. Winner of nearly every major industry award, including the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 1996 Tony Award for Best Musical, RENT continues to be a cornerstone of modern American musical theatre. RENT first opened at the off-Broadway, New York Theatre Workshop. The New York Times theatre critic Ben Brantley called it an “exhilarating, landmark rock opera” with a “glittering, inventive score” that “shimmers with hope for the future of the American musical.” The performance takes place at the Kiwanis Theatre, Chatham Cultural Centre. In addition to the subscription season, Theatre Kent is producing the holiday classic A Christmas Story Dec. 11 & 12 , 2009. Ralphie¹s quest for a Red Ryder BB Gun comes to life as this favourite holiday film hits the stage. The play is adapted by Philip Grecian from the film and moemoir by Jean Shepherd and will be directed by Karen Robinet.

The original Olympic flame will be travelling from Athens, Greece and making its journey across Canada, in an effort to “light the land, generate pride in our nation, and celebrate the possible!”  The Olympic flame will be passing through a number of Chatham-Kent communities over a three day period, and will be stopping overnight for a very special “cauldron lighting” ceremony in Chatham on December 22, 2009.  To celebrate this historic moment, the municipality will be hosting a free full-day event to showcase, honour, and celebrate our community’s cultural diversity, heritage, local accomplishments, and community champions. Taking place at the Kinsmen Auditorium and Memorial Arena, from 12 p.m. until approximately 10:30 p.m., this event includes a full day of free family activities, performances, art demonstrations, and sporting events.
