ERIE RIDGE C.A.T. INVITES YOU TO NETWORKING PARTY
Chatham-Kent’s creative community living or working along Lake Erie from Buxton to Palmyra is invited to an evening of art networking and cultural mapping. This will be one of the first chances to experience Smith & Wilson Estate Winery’s new facilities at 8368 Water Street west of Blenheim on Highway #3. The event is being planned by the Erie Ridge Cultural Action Team (CAT). Organisers encourage writers, actors, musicians, visual artists, designers, architects, magicians, crafters, photographers, quilters, framers, journalists – and more - to attend. If you are creative, come and join other like-minded people to meet members of the CAT team. Learn how you can share in plans for growing our economy through culture and hear from Jim and Lisa Gilbert about a proposed Chatham-Kent-wide Arts Festival. You can also talk to web designer Rob Armstrong about tips in designing a web page and optimising your web presence.
You will be invited to place a colour-coded dot on an Erie Ridge CAT map so by the end of the evening clusters of artists/artisans and supporters will emerge. The information will be used to encourage the development of businesses which support and respond to the creative economy. You may be surprised to find how many artists and art-related businesses exist in our community already. There is no cover charge for this event. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be served while you purchase specially chosen vintages from Smith & Wilson’s award-winning selection of wines. The Chatham-Kent Museum will be talking all about women’s underwear on November 9, 2009 at 7 p.m. This talk is for fans of Jane Austen and the current costume dramas like “Pride and Prejudice” and “Sense and Sensibility,” lovers of fashion history, and those seeking information on civilian clothing during the War of 1812. The years from 1790 to1820, known as the Regency Era, were a time of extreme change in fashion, when the old styles of garments met with intense modification and experimentation. The selection and styles available to women were vast. Dawn Luckham of Daffodown Dilly Historic Costume and Custom Design and a graduate of the Ontario College of Art (now known as OCAD) and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York will be our guest for the evening.  She will guide us through this era and will be bringing reproduction examples of corsets, petticoats, and other undergarments for participants to examine. Tickets for this event are $10 and include refreshments. A cash bar will also be available. Tickets may be purchased at the Cultural Centre Box Office, 75 William Street North, Chatham, or by calling 519.354.8338 or at www.cktickets.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.

Tuesday, November 10, 10 a.m. and 12 noon
World War I was the war that began to unite our country. It gave our citizens a sense of unity and helped to form our sense of nationality. The soldiers in the trenches faced many horrific battles combined with heavy casualties. Life for the enlisted was not full of the fame and glory that they had dreamed war would bring them.  On November 10, 2009 the Chatham-Kent Museum will be presenting WWI Soldier Comes Alive. The main source of this monologue’s hard hitting script is from the reminiscences of a ninety-two year old veteran.  It does not deal with the political causes of the war or the strategy of battles, but with the horrific reality of day to day life as it was in the trenches. This show will be performed in the intimate setting of Studio One. Seating is limited. The 10 a.m. show is already sold out, but the noon show has seats available. Tickets are $5 for students and adults are $10. Tickets may be purchased at the Cultural Centre Box Office, 75 William Street North, by calling 519.354.8338 or at www.cktickets.com
