Wednesday afternoons or Friday mornings
Join the Wii Bowling League at the Wallaceburg Seniors’ Community Centre. No stairs to climb. This can be done sitting in a chair if you are unable to stand. A FUN SOCIAL 2 HOURS. All gaming equipment will be provided. No prior experience with the Wii console is necessary. The league using the Wii electronic game console will be composed of two-person teams. Teams do not have to attend every week, but will need to attend enough days to complete the league schedule. Teams will vie for the “Golden Shoes” Trophy . Less impressive prizes will be handed out to the teams managing the best average score, the best single game score and whatever other milestones or achievements we deem worthy, Sign up dead line by: Oct. 2nd. Fourth Wednesday of every Month
Located in the Region of Chatham-Kent, Tulip Tree Needlearts is a chapter of the
Embroiderersí Association of Canada www.eac.ca. The aim of the organization is to preserve traditional techniques and promote new challenges in the Art of Embroidery through education and networking. Meetings are the 4th Tuesday of every month. For information on meetings or classes please phone 519 674-5538 or 519 354-8590. Workshops are designed to offer members an opportunity to learn both new and advanced methods of needlework. Projects and Classes are ongoing throughout the year. Stitch-ins are held regularly in members homes throughout the region of Chatham-Kent. These offer an opportunity for members to share expertise and ideas. Tulip Tree Needlearts offers group and individual courses through the Embroiderersí Association of Canada. Membership is $50.00 and includes a subscription to the quarterly national magazine Embroidery Canada.

Area experts, including professional cinematographer Michael Jari Davidson will hold workshops on elements of feature film production for Chatham-Kent high school students on Friday, January 8th beginning at 8:30am at St. Clair College, Thames Campus. Jari Davidson will present an Introduction to Professional Cinematography Equipment and Lighting. Other workshops include Special Effects Make-up and Sound Recording for Film with local recording engineer Brett Samsom of Musical Strings and Things. Teachers from local high schools are invited to bring their Communications/Arts students to St. Clair College, Thames Campus for the one-day workshop series. Students are also invited to bring along short samples of their work for a student showcase screening. Interested teachers should contact Paul Bourdeau at Ursuline College or Peter Martin at TVCOGECO. The Film 101 Festival combines the student film competition with a series of film production workshops, and screenings of selected films from the National Film Board of Canada archives. The main purpose of the festival is to encourage the development of student film makers, but members of the general public are welcome to attend the National Film Board screenings and student showcase. The festival is presented by TVCOGECO in partnership with the Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton regional Boards of Education. Sponsors include Bulldog Design Inc., the National Film Board of Canada and St. Clair College.

The Canadian Cancer Society is hosting a support group for individuals living with BREAST cancer. The meeting will be held at the Chatham-Kent Unit office, 746 Richmond St., Units A & B, Chatham from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. There is no fee, but registration for new participants is appreciated. Chatham-Kent Teachers and Principals can now book their grade 6 and grade 5/6 classes for safety education programming at the Children’s Safety Village, located in C.M. Wilson Conservation Area. Chatham-Kent Police will address Internet Safety and Cyber Proofing, Chatham-Kent Paramedics will teach Basic First-Aid and the role of the paramedic, and C-K Farm Safety Association will focus on ATV, lawnmower and farm safety. All programs presented are set as per the Ontario School Curriculum guidelines. This service is free of charge thanks to the many sponsors and donors who care about the personal safety training of the youth of Chatham-Kent. Bookings are based on a first come first serve basis. The Erie Ridge Cultural Action Team (CAT) has organised an information meeting as a follow-up to their October successful networking and mapping event. Everyone interested in expanding cultural activities in Chatham-Kent is encouraged to attend the free gathering at the Ridgetown Municipal Centre on Main Street (opposite Foodland).
The highlight of the evening will be a talk by Director of Economic Development Kathy Weiss. Ms. Weiss will share some practical ideas about how the Municipal departments of Economic Development and of Tourism can work together with artists, craftspeople, writers, actors, designers, photographers, artisans and others to create a more culturally-connected economic base in Chatham-Kent. Also speaking on the evening will be a representative from the Highgate United Church. Members of the congregation are being pro-active in looking for a creative re-use of the building when church services stop in June this year. Some of the options being explored involve possible studio spaces and/or a performance venue. The Erie Ridge CAT extends from North Buxton to Palmyra but for this special meeting, all Chatham-Kent CAT members and other local artists and crafters are invited to attend. The Wallaceburg and District Museum is welcoming the New Year with a double bill feature. The museum will be showing two blockbuster hits in partnership with the Chatham-Kent’s Municipal Youth Committee and the Wallaceburg Museum Youth Committee. At 2 pm we will be showing “Clouding with a Chance of Meatballs”. There
will be fun activities for the children and maybe for the moms and dads. If you can’t make it for the matinee show, don’t worry. We will be showing “Where the Wilds Things Are” at 7 pm. The museum doors will be open at 6 pm so you can come in and check out our latest displays. Admission to the museum is $2 for individuals and $5 for a family of four. Manulife Walk for Memories Raises Crucial Funds to Stem the Rising Tide of Dementia. This event supports local services for people with dementia and their caregivers. The Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent’s Manulife Walk for Memories has
special urgency this year amidst news of the escalating numbers of people with dementia and the potential crippling effect on Canadian families, the health care system and the economy. The Walk will be held on the morning of Saturday, January 16th at the Downtown Chatham Centre. The Kiwanis Theatre presents the 1953 classic film, From Here to Eternity.
From Here to Eternity is a drama film based on the novel of the same name by James Jones. It deals with the troubles of soldiers, played by Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Frank Sinatra and Ernest Borgnine stationed onHawaii in the months leading up to theattack on Pearl Harbor. Deborah Kerr and Donna Reed portray the women in their lives. The film won eight Academy Awards out of 13 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Fred Zinnemann), Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Sinatra) and Best Supporting Actress (Reed). Crawl downtown Chatham with local artists this January 23rd for the Second Annual Winter ARTcrawl! Join us in celebrating the birth date of influential artist Eduoard Manet. The evening will begin at ARTspace with the opening of New Works by Exhibiting Members and cocooning, a window installation by Kelly Ridley. Beginning at 6 pm, Ridley will be in the window knitting herself into a cocoon. Snacks and a hot apple cider will be provided to keep you warm on the walk at 7 p.m. to William Street Café. At the William Street Café, groove to the music of Sarah Hiltz and view the great local artwork that is always on display at the Café. Purchase one of your William Street Café favourites or a cup of the evening’s special hot drink to keep you warm on the 8 p.m. walk to the Thames Art Gallery. At TAG, enjoy the tunes of the Chatham-Kent Mountaineers and check out the newest Community Arts Initiative, In the Manner of Manet. Christine Tithecott, daughter of Elizabeth and Dr. Gary Tithecott, will be performing a selection of classical piano music in support of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance’s Highest Priority Needs. The event will take place at St. Andrews United Church in Chatham, 85 William Street, Chatham. Christine Tithecott has completed a Masters program in Piano Performance from the University of Western Ontario and is currently preparing for an application for doctoral studies. Christine holds a graduated Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from the University of Western Ontario (2007) and a Solo Piano Performer ARCT Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music. She has also completed in various competitions and presented recitals in Canada and France.
Christine will perform her repertoire from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. and a reception with refreshments will follow from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Tickets are available for $10 each or three for $25. The Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival Committee has recently announced the dates for the 65th Annual Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival. The Festival will be held from April 6 to April 16, 2010. The Grand Concert is scheduled for Tuesday, April 27. Free copies of the Festival syllabus are available at Tony’s One Stop Music Shoppe, Frank’s Music Centre, Strings ‘N’ Things and Gospel Text Book Store in Chatham. Entries must be postmarked no later than November 16, 2009. Band and Choirs entries must be postmarked no later than Dec. 1, 2009. Registrations can be submitted online, for a reduced entry fee, to www.chathamkiwanis.com/musicfestival, beginning November 1. Registrants are encouraged to use online registration but entries can still be submitted by mail.
