Fourth Wednesday of every Month
Located in the Region of Chatham-Kent, Tulip Tree Needlearts is a chapter of the
Embroiderers' Association of Canada www.eac.ca. The aim of the organization is to preserve traditional techniques and promote new challenges in the Art of Embroidery through education and networking. Meetings are the 4th Tuesday of every month. For information on meetings or classes please phone 519 674-5538 or 519 354-8590. Workshops are designed to offer members an opportunity to learn both new and advanced methods of needlework. Projects and Classes are ongoing throughout the year. Stitch-ins are held regularly in members homes throughout the region of Chatham-Kent. These offer an opportunity for members to share expertise and ideas. Tulip Tree Needlearts offers group and individual courses through the Embroiderersí Association of Canada. Membership is $50.00 and includes a subscription to the quarterly national magazine Embroidery Canada.

Today, photography has become as art form as demonstrated by the Chatham Camera Club. Explore the history of photography through the Chatham-Kent Museum’s exhibit Over-exposed: the History of Photography. This exhibit explores the development of the photographic process from daguerreotypes to digital and camera obscura to Cybershot©.

Peter Appleyard is a Canadian jazz vibraphonist, percussionist and composer who drew wide acclaim for his performances with Benny Goodman's jazz sextet in the early 1970's. The Peter Appleyard Quartet will be gracing the stage of Thamesville United Church on the above dates. The evening will include TUC’ s famous roast beef dinner at 6:00 PM, followed by the performance at 7:00 PM. Tickets are only $50 / person. The Talbot Trail Theatre Company presents their 2010 production of "OZ!" This year's show boasts 37 cast members, a host of volunteers, action, music and, of course, the ever popular- dinner show! The Milner Heritage House is no stranger to the paranormal. Many visitors and past staff members have reported ghostly activity; so much so, that the house is featured on the local ghost walks hosted by Sheila Gibbs. Sheila has collected some of the many ghost stories she's heard into two books, conducted many ghost walks,
and acted as a spirit from the past herself. On November 18, the Chatham-Kent Museum invites the public to come and hear how she gained interest in the paranormal, and where this journey has taken her. Along the way, she will list the top ten ways to know you’ve got a ghost and tingle your spine with some riveting tales of spooky happenings. The lecture, including refreshments with Sheila will take place in Studio One of the Cultural Centre. Need something for the kids to do on the November PA Day? On Friday, November 26, 2010, the Chatham-Kent Museum will be taking children camping during their Kooky Camp-A -Long P.A. Day program. Parents don’t have to worry about their
children becoming lost in the woods as the camp will take place indoors a t the Cultural Centre in Studio One. Kids age 7-9 will be happy campers when they make their own camp pillows, learn about nature, and make nature crafts. Camp wouldn’t be complete without stories by the campfire! Camp runs from 9 a.m. -4 p.m. with early drop off beginning at 8:30 a.m. and late pick-up available until 4:30 p.m. Campers are asked to bring their own peanut free snacks and lunches. The Catherine McVean Chapter IODE will launch its 14th Annual IODE Tree of Tribute project with a tree lighting ceremony at the IODE Garden located at the corner of St. George Street and Metcalfe Street in Dresden, at 7:00 p.m. Established in 1996, Tree of Tribute raises funds to support local healthcare. This year, the Chapter has chosen to direct the proceeds towards the purchase of a Stat Express Centrifuge for the Lab at Chatham-Kent Health Aliance's Sudenham Campus. Tree of Tribute project is launched at the beginning of November and the tree is lit annually on the last Friday in November. Through this project, Chatham-Kent residents are able to purchase bulbs for $10, $20 and $30 and have them placed on the IODE’s Tree of Tribute in honour of a loved one. In December, the IODE will place an ad in the Leader Spirit featuring the names of this year’s Tree of Tribute honourees. Movember is a word blend of Moustache and November, and is a movement that started in Australia in 2003 in an attempt to use the moustache as a vehicle to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer with the goal of improving men’s health. The CK Movember Finale is being lead by the Kent Havoc Rugby Football Club and the organizing committee includes: Sandra Hanley (Family Service Kent), Dr. Jason Denys, John Lyons (Bulldog Design) and Laverne Hanley (Kent Havoc). The Movember Finale is on November 26th, at the Chatham Armoury beginning at 5:30pm. The theme for the 2010 finale is ‘Save a Bro, Grow a Mo’. The luxurious shopping event takes place in the opulent setting of The Mansion on Victoria, 158 Victoria Avenue in Chatham. Built in 1875 for the then Lord Mayor of Chatham, The Mansion on Victoria has been restored to its original grandeur and is now an elegant six-bedroom bed-and-breakfast furnished with period antiques. Toronto based Ballet Jörgen Canada, whose production of Cinderella was part of the RBC Opening Festival at the Chatham Capitol Theatre are returning to Chatham in December with their production of The Nutcracker as part of the Union Gas Inaugural Season. The Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival Committee has recently announced the
dates for the 66th Annual Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival. The Festival will be
held from April 4 to April 15, 2011. The Grand Concert is scheduled for Tuesday,
April 26. Free copies of the Festival syllabus are available at Tony’s One Stop Music Shoppe, Frank’s Music Centre, Strings ‘N’ Things and Gospel Text Book Store in Chatham. Entries must be postmarked no later than November 15, 2010. Band and Choirs entries must be postmarked no later than Dec. 1, 2010. Registrations can be submitted online, for a reduced entry fee, to www.chathamkiwanis.com/musicfestival, beginning November 1. Registrants are encouraged to use online registration but entries can still be submitted by mail.
