Dustbuster Program for grades JK to grade 8 children will take place at the Salvation Army Church, 46 Orangewood Blvd., Chatham. Program starts Sept. 21 with a Family BBQ and Registration. The program presents fun with songs, crafts, bible lessons and games. Free program but freewill donations accepted.

Fourth Wednesday of every Month
Located in the Region of Chatham-Kent, Tulip Tree Needlearts is a chapter of the
Embroiderers' Association of Canada www.eac.ca. The aim of the organization is to preserve traditional techniques and promote new challenges in the Art of Embroidery through education and networking. Meetings are the 4th Tuesday of every month. For information on meetings or classes please phone 519 674-5538 or 519 354-8590. Workshops are designed to offer members an opportunity to learn both new and advanced methods of needlework. Projects and Classes are ongoing throughout the year. Stitch-ins are held regularly in members homes throughout the region of Chatham-Kent. These offer an opportunity for members to share expertise and ideas. Tulip Tree Needlearts offers group and individual courses through the Embroiderersí Association of Canada. Membership is $50.00 and includes a subscription to the quarterly national magazine Embroidery Canada.

The Kiwanis Club of Ridgetown meets weekly in the basement of the Mount Zion Presbyterian Church, 59 Main St. E., Ridgetown. Summer meetings are hosted by members at various local addresses.

Today, photography has become as art form as demonstrated by the Chatham Camera Club. Explore the history of photography through the Chatham-Kent Museum’s exhibit Over-exposed: the History of Photography. This exhibit explores the development of the photographic process from daguerreotypes to digital and camera obscura to Cybershot©.

ARTspace presents its second satellite installation located in Ridgetown at the Ridge House Museum. For the exhibition, artists were challenged to create free-standing three-dimensional works. The exhibition will be on display from December 1st to 23rd, 2010 with a reception on Saturday December 18th, 2010 at 2pm. Also on display at the Ridge House Museum: A Victorian Christmas from 1875, with scrumptious snacks and warm cider. Ridge House Museum is open daily from 1pm – 5pm, December 1 to 23. Admission is by donation. Ridge House Museum is located at: 53 Erie Street South, Ridgetown, Ontario.

Christmas Is Happening at the Chatham-Kent Museum. Adults can have lots of fun at the Christmas Drinks & Traditions lecture . (Participants must be legal drinking age to participate in the adult workshop.) At the Christmas Drinks & Traditions lecture, join in on a discussion of customs of Christmas past while sampling traditional Christmas beverages such as wassail and gin punch. Theatre Kent presents its Christmas show, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, at the Kiwanis Theatre in Chatham. This year’s production is based on the popular book by Barbara Robinson and all tickets are $10. The show tells the story of the six Herdman children, considered by many to be “the worst kids ever.” They are convinced to go to church for the first time by the promise of snacks, just in time to muscle their way into the annual Christmas pageant.

Christmas Is Happening at the Chatham-Kent Museum. Children can spend an evening decorating their very own gingerbread house, followed by refreshments and a Christmas story time with museum staff while parents get some of their shopping done. Opening reception for Dermot Wilson Pseudo-arc: n Directions Drawn and ARTspace Exhibiting Members in the Mezzanine Gallery of the Thames Art Gallery, Chatham.

The Thames Art Gallery announces its new Ground Floor Gallery exhibition by Dermot Wilson entitled Pseudo-arc: n Directions Drawn. This multimedia installation includes various videos, giclee prints, large-scale drawings, a bookwork, installation works and a web site (www.pseudoarc.org). For this exhibition Wilson has created four new art pieces that examine and meditate upon the infinitely crooked line. The artist uses found film, hair, window spline and various materials to create these representations of the Pseudo-arc. An ARTspace Members exhibition will be on display in the Mezzanine Gallery of the Thames Art Gallery in conjunction with Pseudo-arc. The exhibition will feature new works by the talented group of Chatham-Kent artists represented by the downtown gallery.

Toronto based Ballet Jörgen Canada, whose production of Cinderella was part of the RBC Opening Festival at the Chatham Capitol Theatre are returning to Chatham in December with their production of The Nutcracker as part of the Union Gas Inaugural Season. This production of the fabled ballet, which will include several local children in the cast, has taken on a decidedly Canadian approach. Set in Bisset Ontario, Klara and the Nutcracker Prince travel through the lush summer beauty of Algonquin Parkand experience Canadian landscapes executed by the Group of Seven. If you really want to catch the Christmas spirit this year, you’ll want to be at the Mary Webb Centre in Highgate for Christmas Tales and Tunes, a heartwarming and entertaining words and music show that will make sure you’re ready to welcome Santa. Christmas Tales and Tunes combines the musical talents of guitarist Bill Morrow and singer-songwriter Leia Weaver, both of Chatham, with the spoken word of Wallaceburg writer and poet John Gardiner. TVCOGECO will once again hold a day of video production workshops for Chatham-Kent high school students on Friday, January 7th from 9am to 4pm at St. Clair College Thames Campus. Film 101- 2011 will feature workshops on a variety of production related topics by Mark Drewe of Huge Ideas video production in London, Brett Sansom of Musical Strings and Things in Chatham and Zach Lawton of TVCOGECO. The workshops will also feature screenings of a number of recent short films by the National Film Board of Canada and a student video showcase. The main purpose of the workshops is to encourage the development of student film makers in Chatham-Kent. The event is presented by TVCOGECO in partnership with the Chatham-Kent area Boards of Education. Sponsors include Bulldog Design Inc., the National Film Board of Canada and St. Clair College.

The Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival Committee has recently announced the
dates for the 66th Annual Chatham Kiwanis Music Festival. The Festival will be
held from April 4 to April 15, 2011. The Grand Concert is scheduled for Tuesday,
April 26. Free copies of the Festival syllabus are available at Tony’s One Stop Music Shoppe, Frank’s Music Centre, Strings ‘N’ Things and Gospel Text Book Store in Chatham. Entries must be postmarked no later than November 15, 2010. Band and Choirs entries must be postmarked no later than Dec. 1, 2010. Registrations can be submitted online, for a reduced entry fee, to www.chathamkiwanis.com/musicfestival, beginning November 1. Registrants are encouraged to use online registration but entries can still be submitted by mail.
