Thames Art Gallery offers POTTERY FOR BEGINNERS for adults, an 8-week course from April 19 - June 14 (no class May 3). The Chatham-Kent Museum hosts "This Won't Hurt A Bit!", an examination of the evolution of the local health care system. The exhibit explores the early stories of amputations conducted on the kitchen tables of amateur surgeions, the establishment of our fine hospitals and renowned nursing schools, and the many colourful characters of our medical community and their struggles with crises such as the typhoid fever epidemics, malaria, train wrecks, and budget cuts.

The summer concert series at Two Creeks Conservation Area in Wheatley
continues with two bands playing; the Sun Parlour Pipe Band plays at 6:45PM followed
by the Essex County Ramblers at 7:00PM. The Ramblers play a blend of
bluegrass, country and gospel in wonderful harmony. Admission is free,
but bring a lawn chair. Two Creeks is located just north of Wheatley on

August 8 - 19
The final session of Wallaceburg Minor Baseball Summer Camp runs for these two weeks for children age 5 to 10. Cost is $50 and each child receives a t-shirt, hat, daily snack and a BBQ on the last day of camp. The Kent Federation of Agriculture is hosting a regional meeting at Roesch Meats and More, 10910 Northwood Line, Kent Bridge. 6:30 social, 7:00 p.m. Pork Barbecue (complimentary). Guest speaker is Paul Mistele, OFA Vice President. Following the guest speaker there will be elections for Directors and Delegates to attend the OFA annual convention November 21-22. All farmers are invited. Pre-registration is required in order to have an idea of numbers for the meal. Call KFA office at 674-1595.

FAIRFIELD COMES ALIVE - Annual War of 1812 Re-enactment is once again to be held on Labour Day Weekend. The sound of gunfire, the smells of cornbread with maple syrup, and the bustle of soldiers and villagers in period costume will once again bring historic Fairfield to life on September 3 and 4, 2005. The annual re-enactment takes place on the former site of the Moravian and Delaware village which was destroyed on October 7, 1813 by General William Henry Harrison‚s American troops. The event includes an 1812 British military encampment, an 1812 military drill, merchants, first person historic interpreters, museum tours, period cooking and food, and pony rides. The public is encouraged to attend this year‚s event at Fairfield Museum, 14878 Longwoods Road (formerly Highway #2) between Bothwell and Thamesville, Ontario from 10am to 5pm both days. Re-enactors are of course very welcome to attend but should call (519)692-4397 or email fairfield.museum@sympatico.ca to register.

Sydenham Antique Club hosts its 18th ANNUAL GRAND OLD POWER DAYS at the Florence Community Centre featuring the Ford Talent Show at 8:00 p.m. Friday night. Saturday and Sunday's festivities begin at 9 a.m. and include a farmers' breakfast, flea markets, parades, a mini tractor pull, a bean pot, corn roast, an OPP canine presentation, a 4-H poultry show, a church service, a pumpkin contest and a chicken barbecue at various times during the rest of the weekend. Saturday's Parade of Power begins at 12 p.m.; Sunday's Antique Car Parade is at 3 p.m.

The Renaissance Art Gallery, 37 Main St. E., in Ridgetown, in partnership with the Capitol Theatre, will hold its Harvest of Art and Fashion Fundraiser at Kinsmen Auditorium in Chatham. Doors open at 6:30 and show starts at 7:30. The theme of the show is "fashion as art and art as fashion". They are looking for artists to participate.
