Other Saints Required

Tuesday, September 13, 2005

The end of August brought a great deal of anguish to not just the southern US States but also to the whole of North America and much more of the world as Hurricane Katrina laid a full shoulder hit to the Louisianna and Mississippi.

The New Orleans Saints football team were directly affected and they are trying help rebuild a state as well as keep their season going . Churchgoers and anyone who believes in a higher power are right in believing that we need the Saints and I'm not talking about the football players.

The devastation and destruction that was left by Katrina did not discriminate although those with more funds readily available were able to flee quicker and not face the terror first hand but on television.

The New Orleans Saints players are continuing with their season although their minds are elsewhere, thinking about family, friends and neighbours and what was was lost. The players have turned every moment of free time into a helping session trying to raise money.

Yesterday's game was in Carolina and the Panthers chipped in as well. They brought 350 Katrina survivors to the game so they could maybe get their mind off the mess back home for a few hours. Not only did they entertain some victims but they promptly raised $176,000 for the relief fun.

The world of sports is stepping up large as every major league in every sport is using their "celebrity power" to raise funds and help rebuild the areas affected by the latest hurricane.
Millions and millions of dollars have been raised to help offset the cost of everything lost, clean up and the rebuild.

The sports world has focused on what is important in life---people. The Major sports leagues are not just trying to rebuild cities but trying to rebuild lives. The playing of a child's game seems so unimportant when lives are taken. The athletes know this but do realize that with their celebrity status can raise money and awareness. They are out of the "me" mode and are in help mode.

It's about time.
