SAY IT AIN'T SO GRETZ

No, No, No, No! There is no way that Wayne Gretzky can be involved in Rick Tocchet's little gambling empire --- it's just not possible.Not only is Wayne Gretzky the greatest hockey player that ever lived he is also one of the most natural people that ever breathed. He is not guilty. Wayne Gretzky said he wasn't guilty and that's good enough for me.
Afterall Gretzky can't lie, I‚ve seen him try to act and he just can't. That will be the only negative thing that I could say about the Great One. He tried a couple of commercials and even a Saturday Night Live skit but he wasn't very believeable.
Do I have facts that Gretzky didn't bet? No. But I have faith. In our lives we have seen several government scandals, several church scandals, parents that do horrible things to their children and people who are evil. I have faith that Wayne Gretzky is clean as a whislte. My faith in Gretzky is solid.
He is too good of a person and just too nice a guy to do anything that might jeopardize the integrity of hockey. Gretzky is just too squeaky clean. He makes the Mr.Clean guy look like a vagrant.
Whatever Tocchet did and even Janet Jones did, it didn't include Wayne. To be honest with you --- if Janet Jones bet a few grand on the Super Bowl that's fine and if Rick Tocchet booked the bet I even think that's fine but when people mention organized crime that's not fine.
The mob are not very nice people to deal with when things go wrong, just ask Jimmy Hoffa. The accusations are flying fast and furious and it sounds like something right out of the Sopranos. There are huge amounts of dollars changing hands, around 1.7 million in 40 days, and there are also patsies involved as well as the big fish. A cop on the take, the mob and a pro athlete have all the makings of a made for TV movie on HBO.
When this thing shakes out it should be very interesting of the whos whys and hows although the timing is very suspect and conspiracists are frothing at the mouth. Things will be falling down around Gretzky and the Coyotes but he will be the strong pillar of truth that will keep the NHL safe. He's just that type of guy.
Whatever happens and however far the investigation goes I will be behind Wayne Gretzky every step of the way because he is innocent. I'd bet on it!
Gary Patterson was born and raised in Chatham-Kent. He grew up in Thamesville and now lives in Chatham. Patterson was Sports Director at Beaver Communications an Blackburn Radio for over 15 years.
