Off the Air

Concerns:

Wednesday, May 25, 2005

You know I'm shocked with how different two children can be that are raised in the same house and conceived by the same people. Shocking really. We have a daughter who is 7 and a son who will be a year and half in July, and the two couldn't be any different.

Madison is very outgoing, and needs to be doing something at all times. She never was one to play by herself. I would have to play barbies with her when she was 3-4 years old. Let me tell you, I never imagined this happening when I enrolled into fatherhood. If my friends could have seen me on my hands and knees saying, "My hair is all messed up Barbie, can you help me comb it?" I'm not sure I would ever live it down.

Funny how some things are just inherited as well: Madison has always leaned towards girly things, Barbies, jewelery, that sort of thing. Maxx, my son, the first time he saw a truck he picked it up, and went to all fours and pretended to drive it while going rmmmm, rmmmmm Now if you are thinking that he picked that up at daycare, the place he goes to is all girls, no boys.

As for a comparison between son and daughter, Maxx will scream bloody murder if someone other than his parents or close relatives picks him up. Madison would have gone to anyone. It was such concern for her that we gave Madison a password that someone would have to say in order for them to talk to her, if we were not around. A good practice for all parents. (a good practice for anyone)

Madison loves sports (Thanks God!) She's pretty good at golf, soccer, and running. My son? In the morning he likes to brush his hair with his mother. So keen is his interest in his hair that you can see it in his face when you first meet him, he focuses his attention on your hair.

One afternoon Maxx and I were in the garage cleaning things up, when we came across a few paint cans and brushes. My son picked up the paint brushes and proceeded to take the brush and dust his face like he was putting makeup or blush on and all I could think of is "This boy needs to spend more time with his Dada".

Maxx is happy when he's fed, Madison could go days without eating. (It drives her mom crazy)

Madison is the cleanest eater in the world. Even when she was one and had the messy cake, she picked at it one bit at a time. Maxx had that cake everywhere. I think we followed his birthday pictures with a bath. It was so funny we posted the picture on our website for all to see.

http://cksyfm.com/ Just click on breakfast bunch, and go to morning fun, and you can find it there.

I guess my point is it's hard to believe that kids can be so different yet raised in the same home. Although it sure would be boring as a parent if you raised the same kid 3 times. I guess there is a reason why they are all different.

A house hold name in the Chatham Media scene for 20 years, Greg Hetherington was the host of the CKSY Morning show until recently. Being around for 20 years at the Mic has given Greg a few stories to share with you here on "Off the Air" Greg has traveled a fair bit in his day from Europe, to Africa, and a few North American trips in between, he hopes to share a few of his traveling tips, and adventures with your here. As much as he likes to travel, he loves to experience the local events and people in Chatham Kent. "It's great to leave, but I still get excited when I can see that 'Chatham Kent' sign on the 401." says Greg. I've got a lot of people to talk about, and things that have happened in CK! A little about Kelly: Kelly is a free spirit ("that's an understatement" says Greg)and loves to enjoy everything that life has to offer. Born in Chatham, she's a traveler too, and has traveled the world. Living in Australia for a year, Vancouver as well, and touring China, Thailand, Amsterdam (that's a story)and many places across North America. Kelly and Greg are a perfect Match. "We both have the travel bug" says Kelly. "Maybe that's why we picked New York as the place to get married this June. I told Greg, the ring (engagement ring) didn't have to be big.... .but the honeymoon better be amazing!" Everything we share will be "Off the Air"
