Christmas at Ridge House Museum

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.......

Take a break from all the hustle and bustle of the busy holiday season to experience Christmas at a point in time when everything moved just a little bit slower. Join us at the Ridge House Museum to learn about Christmas as it would have been in 1875!

Ridge House will be decorated using only the freshest greens, nuts, and berries. Let your senses be your guide as you discover the joys of Christmas past. Don't miss your chance to come in from the cold and take the chill off with a glass of hot apple cider and some hot buttered popcorn during our special evening open house on December 6 from 6 to 9 pm.

As an added treat, Served Up with Style will still be featured in the Ridge House gallery; The cluttered look associated with Victorian design definitely found its way into the dining room as tables were filled to excess, not only with food, but with a myriad of individualized serving pieces designed to suit the needs of each particular dish. Often elaborately decorated, the ultimate goal of such pieces was to illustrate wealth, manners, and social status. Served Up with Style showcases Victorian serving pieces from the collections of both the Ridge House and Chatham-Kent Museums.

Ridge House Museum is open for Christmas daily December 1 to 23, 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Group tours and education programs are welcome with advanced booking.

EYE FOR ART RETURNS TO THE THAMES ART GALLERY

On Saturday, December 6th, the Thames Art Gallery will open its doors for the third biennial Eye for Art Gala, a juried exhibition, and sale showcasing artwork by Chatham-Kent artists. The Thames Art Gallery Volunteer Organization and Carlo Rossini Memorial Diabetes Foundation organize this event.

Eye for Art has been the premier showcase for Chatham-Kent Artists. The original Eye for Art ran as an annual exhibition from 1983 until 1996 as a fundraiser for the Thames Art Gallery. It was resurrected in 2004 as a biennial exhibition by Jean Rossini and other members of VOTAG (Volunteer Organization of the Thames Art Gallery) and became the joint fundraiser it is today.

All profits from this event will remain in Chatham-Kent, the proceeds shared by the two organizing groups. The twinning of health care and preservation of cultural identity for Chatham-Kent make the Eye for Art Gala a very meaningful endeavour.

Eye for Art is an excellent opportunity to acquire work of local artists. The evening will include catering by Harvest Moon, live music, vintage wines, silent auction, and a cash bar

This year a champagne reception will be held just before the gala for sponsors and supporters of the event.

Tickets available at the Chatham Cultural Centre Box Office, 75 William St. N., by phone at 519-354-8338 or on line at www.cktickets.com for $50.00. Doors open at 8 p.m.
