Prostate Health: What is It?

Tuesday, April 11, 2006

The prostate is a variable-sized gland located in the male pelvis, usually the size of a walnut measuring 3-4 centimeters long by 3-5 centimeters in width. Onaverage the gland weighs about 20 grams. It is found behind the pubic bone, in front of the rectum, and below the bladder, surrounded by the pelvic muscles. The prostate surrounds the urethra which carries urine from the bladder to the penis and travels in the center of the gland.

Prevention and Awareness
Diet has a major role in allowing - or stopping - prostate cancer. A Harvard University School of Public Health study indicates that you are 250% more likely to suffer advanced prostate cancer if you eat red meat every day than if you eat red meat only once a week.

The message is clear and generally ignored: move your diet in the direction of vegetarianism, and start today. This doesn't mean to be totally vegan but eat your greens more often!

Natural health research has continually emphasized these measures to help fight cancer. A particularly good example is the work of Max Gerson, M.D. Dr. Gerson used a mostly raw food and fresh vegetable juice diet for cancer patients with remarkably good results. He also used substantial quantities of vitamin supplements. His entire program is set forth in a tremendously valuable book he wrote called A Cancer Therapy: Results of 50 Cases (Gerson Institute, California). More recently, eating a lot of lycopene-rich, fresh tomatoes has been shown to radically reduce your prostate cancer risk.

FYI
The actual benefits of surgery and radiation therapy are statistically quite small. After ten years, only slightly more of the treated patients are still alive than those that did nothing at all ("Prostate Cancer Cure Questioned," The Associated Press, January 27, 1994).

Drink lots of water - water is vital for health. It prevents hunger and flushes toxins from the body. Six to eight glasses a day of reverse osmosis (filtered water) is ideal. Tea and coffee doesn't count towards this! Cut down on alcohol. There's nothing wrong with the odd drink, just don't make it a daily habit.

Don't use pesticides! You are at much higher risk of getting prostate cancer when you are around and use pesticides.

Yes as I have said before GET MOVING exercise is very important for prevention of any illness!

And last, but not least, a person's mental disposition can have a direct effect on the health of the body. Emotions such as anger, stress and depression can have a damaging effect on the immune system and can lead to diseases such as cancer or heart problems. Try to let go of these damaging emotions. Practice relaxation exercises!

Herbs that Help
Saw Palmetto – a scrubby palm with fan shapped leaves is probably the most recognized herb when prostate is the topic and is. This herb available in a powdered form (as an extract in gel capsule form) is a powerful herb used when there is inflammation of the prostate and helps strengthen the genital organs also used for bladder infections.
Lycopene - found mainly in tomatoes is an antioxidant which has a proven beneficial effect on prostate health. Studies have shown that men who consume large doses of lycopene have a much lower incidence of prostate cancer.
Beta-carotene found in carrots and other brightly coloured vegetables can stimulate T-helper cells which prevent the development of cancer.
Selenium is an extremely important micro nutrient which is only needed in tiny amounts. Selenium can be found in certain foods, but the soils in many areas in the world are deficient in this mineral and the food cannot absorb this mineral. Supplements are beneficial is this case.

Start a New Chapter in your life, the reason I say this is a new company has developed certified organic vitamins and minerals. They are the first ever to do so and one of their products is called PROSTATE 5LX. This product promotes healthy prostate function, normalizes urine flow, promotes healthy sexual function and performance. An amazing new product and a great new chapter in your health.

So adopting certain changes of diet, ensuring you take supplements and keeping your emotions positive can an will help in the prevention of prostate or indeed any other form of cancer.

Take care and turn the page to a new chapter in your life ..thanks for reading..Greg Foster
