Legion Musing
Thank a Veteran!
Tuesday, July 7, 2009
On June 20th I was working the parking lot at Crabby Joe's while doing a fund raising effort for the flood victims. A young man in his 20's came up to me to drop some change in the pail. He saw my Veteran's hat and asked me what a Veteran was. I answered him that I was an ex-soldier and had served overseas. We had a little talk and he then asked if I had been wounded. When I lightly replied 3 times, he got some more money out, then shook my hand and said thank you sir for serving and protecting us. My, how wonderful that felt.I'd like to see people doing that for all the Veterans. If you know a Veteran who lives near you or if see a person driving a vehicle with Veteran plates or wearing that cap why not walk up and ask them if they are a Veteran and shake their hand and say thank you. Remember there are also many women who served and are Veterans as well. Let's not wait until November 11th to say thank you. So let's make that effort to thank the brave men and women who willingly served Canada in peacetime and in war. Because of them you know not what it's like in a war.
The Executive continues to meet during the summer to deal with matters. If you have a question, idea or concern please let one of us know. If you don't say anything, we can't do anything about it. We need your input.
