Legion Musing

Busy July at Branch 18

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

July is here and so far it's been a good one. We set a new record at the children's fishing derby at 134. Branch 18 wishes to thank our neighbor Jeff for opening his yard up so we could handle all the kids. I think moving to Canada Day was a great move. We also had help from the Kinsmen Club, so a great big thank you to them.

Christmas in July was held Saturday July 11th with the day starting with rain but finishing off with beautiful weather. A good time was had by all. About 90 people enjoyed the dinner and all the fun that evening. I hear we had a fleet of 5 boats along side. Of course the most important thing is that everyone enjoyed themselves and returned home safely. They even had an evening cruise with Christmas lights blazing, thanks to Dave & Kym.

Soon the big daddy in our event year will be here. Of course I speak of WAMBO. The Legion will once again be hosting our Friday night World Famous Steak BBQ. Saturday all day the Legion is the place to relax, enjoy the view, have something to eat and of course something cold to cool you off. To Legion members and anyone else who would like to help out, the volunteer signup board is up. If you can volunteer a couple of hours, just call the Legion and we will put your name down. The sooner you call the best choice of times are available. Why not ask a few of your friends to join you. The more the merrier. Boaters, Wambo is coming, Why not make the Legion your Wambo headquarters we have free tie up, hydro & water. Call 519-627-6663 there's limited berths, so call early!

Events: Don't forget every Saturday there's a meat draw with live entertainment it may be the Legion's best kept secret. There's a pub night on July 24th when you can enjoy stuffed pork loin, roasted potatoes & veggies for $8.00 per person between 5pm and 7pm. Then following that the music starts at 7pm and runs until 11pm with the Marquis playing for your enjoyment.

August 9th is the Second Annual Peace Keepers Day Ceremony at the Wallaceburg Cenotaph starting at 12:00 noon. Dress is blues and grays plus berets. Many Canadians have served on this duty and sadly many have died trying to stop wars and many more have suffered wounds of all types. I wish to invite all Veterans and the public alike to please come and join us.

August 19th at 12:00pm is our Dieppe Raid Ceremony and again all are invited to come. Dress is the same as Peace Keepers Day. A thank you to all who attended our Decoration Day ceremony at Riverview Cemetery. This is just one of the ways that "We Will Remember Them".

LEST WE FORGET
