Legion Musing

August is busy month starting with WAMBO

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

As we head into August there are a number of important events. Of course there's WAMBO weekend and volunteers are still needed. You can sign up simply by calling the Legion. This year we have opened up the dock for regular boaters who are coming for the weekend but not in the show. For you it is FREE to tie up at the Legion as well as there is FREE hydro and water dockside. So why not make Br.18 Legion your WAMBO headquarters for the weekend? You can contact the Legion at 519-627-6663 to reserve your berth. You'll love the view of the boats in the show. Of course Friday August 7th is Br.18's World Famous Steak BBQ. If you are going to go to only one Steak BBQ this year this is the one to go to. Tickets are available now.

August 9th is the second annual Peace Keepers day. We will be holding a ceremony at the Wallaceburg Cenotaph the time is 12:00pm. August 9th was picked since it is the highest 1 day killing of Canadian Peace Keepers. Many Canadians have served in this noble undertaking often with unloaded weapons. Many have died and many more suffered wounds. I invite everyone , young and old, to fill the square on August 9th at 12:00pm.

August 19th is Dieppe Raid Ceremony again at 12:00pm. The hard lessons learned at such a high cost in Canadian lives during the Dieppe Raid allowed for the success of D-Day on June 6th 1944. Many local Veterans served with the Essex Regiment. Please come and honour these brave men.

Events: August 28th is the next pub night. First off starting at 5:00pm until 7:00pm there's meatloaf and scalloped potatoes with all the trimmings. Entertainment is by The Marquis from 7:oopm until 11:00pm. Tickets are just $8.00 and you can pick them up at the bar or call to reserve. Please pick your tickets up as soon as you can as there is a cut off date. Saturday is Br.18's best kept secret.... Our meat draw. Yes it runs all year long. Music is by Bert & Bill. There's good fun, good times and you could win SundayĆs supper. Why not bring your friends to the friendliest Legion around?
