Legion Musing

The food is needed.....

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

Last month I received a call from Goodwill on Dufferin. They informed me there was food with my name on it at their collection depot. I want to say thank you to whomever dropped that food off and asked that I be contacted. I was finally able to pick up the food, as well as the food from the Legion and drop it off at the Salvation Army.

The staff there told me it was a great thing as their stocks are very low. Folks it shows that hunger is year around. So I'm reminding everyone that we have drop boxes at the Legion. Please when you come in bring a non-perishable food stuff, canned goods, personal toiletries, toilet paper and even laundry soap. Remember there are a great number of children who rely on the food bank and sadly the need is growing. On behalf of the President and Executive I ask that you help us help the needy.

August has been busy for the most part with all the events and ceremonies. We have had Veterans affairs in on the 13th to see people. The Legion's Provincial Service Officers Randy Groundwater will be at the Legion on Sept 4th at 1:00pm upstairs at the Legion. Don't forget we have our elevator to help you.

Legion Week is coming in Sept, it's the third week of Sept. So keep an eye on this space for details.

Events: August 28th is our meatloaf and scalloped potatoes supper with all the trimmings. It's only $10.00 per person. The meal will be served from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. The band The Marquis will be entertaining you until 11:00pm. That's sounds like a great way to spend your Friday night, dining and dancing at Br.18. Please drop by the Legion to get your tickets or call 519-627-6663. Don't forget every Saturday is our meat draw. The band starts up at 4:00pm and the draw runs from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. Fun and a chance to win Sunday's dinner. Why not bring your friend to the friendliest Legion around.

LEST WE FORGET
