Here comes a busy September
Tuesday, August 25, 2009
Sept is almost here and with that our general meetings will return. Now folks we need you to come out to the meetings. Without your input and votes we do not know what direction to go. Please make an effort to come out to the meetings each month. Our next general meeting is Sept 14th at 7:30pm.Also in Sept is Legion week. it runs Sept 20th to Sept 26th. There will be events each day. I'll be posting the information on them in the coming weeks. On Sept 27th we will have a special thank you BBQ for all who volunteer during the year. It will be our end to Legion week here at Br.18.
You know without all the volunteers we could not host the events that we do. I know the President and the entire Executive thank all who do volunteer and we would like to see more come out to help. Also I know that Velda has asked for people to sign up for volunteer bartenders. If you wish to help out on bar tending upstairs please contact her. It's not that hard to do, if I can do it anyone can.
We will be having a Battle of Britain Ceremony at the Cenotaph on the second Sunday of Sept. at 12:00pm,which is Sept. 13th this year. Canadians served during this most important battle. I'd like to see more Legion members coming out. The Ceremonies last less than a half hour. Of course the public is more than welcome to come honour those who served and those who died serving this great country. You will also learn the reason for the day in question as we always give a history lesson on the reason for the ceremony.
Events: Legion Provincial Service Officer Randy Groundwater is at the Legion Sept 4th at 1:00pm upstairs. Remember two important things you do not have to be a Legion member to see him, you do need to be a Veteran or a Widow. Also we have an elevator so the stairs are not a barrier to anyone now.
Saturday Meat draw every Saturday the band starts up at 4:00pm the draws run from 5:00pm until 7:00pm. Lots of fun so why not bring your friends to the friendliest Legion in town.
Aug 29th and 30th at McDonald Park at the end of Langstaff is The Selkirk fair a re-enactment of our pioneer Days. The Legion will have a booth serving pea meal bacon on a bun, hamburgs, hotdogs and soft drinks.
