Legion Musing
Membership time again.....
Tuesday, September 8, 2009
Well it's that time of year again, time to renew your membership. Yes Sept 1st marks the start of the Early Bird campaign. The membership is $44.50 again this year. A bonus is that your name is entered into a draw to win next year's membership dues. So it is a good idea to get yours paid up today.Let's shoot for 100% paid early bird this year. Not many Legions will reach that goal. We've been close here at Branch 18 Legion in Wallaceburg. So let's go gang, pay your dues today.
Did you know that you can be asked to show your Legion card at anytime? It's not just at election time, also when entering a meeting, a training seminar and conventions as well. In fact I remember seeing a person being asked to produce their card in the barroom at Branch 43 in Oshawa in 1997 and did you know you must sign your card for it to be legal. So when you get your new card this year please remember to sign it before you put it in your wallet.
Wanted, new members. How about you mention the Legion to your friends who are not members? We always want to see new members. The Legion is not just cheap beer. We help Veteran's and their families, youth, seniors and the community at large. There's evening activities during the week and of course our best kept secret our weekly Saturday meat draw.
Events: Sept 13th at 12:00pm is the Battle of Britain Ceremony at the Wallaceburg Cenotaph at 12:00 noon. Sept 14th is the next Executive meeting starting at 6:30pm followed at 7:30pm with a general meeting. Please all members we need you to come out to these meetings for your input on how our Branch is run and the direction you'd like it to go in.
Legion week is coming! From Sept 20th to Sept 26th there will be events every night at the Legion. It all starts off with a drumhead service in Thamesville. Friday Sept 25th is all you can eat spaghetti dinner and Honours and Awards starting at 7:00pm with entertainment by the Country Rovers. Everyone is welcome so come on out to enjoy this great band.
