Legion Musing

Thinking about Christmas early

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

It's Oct. and I'm going to mention Christmas. I know you are thinking that I am nuts. Well there are a lot of kids in this town who will wake up to no present on Christmas morning this year. That's just not right, not in this country. I've seen it overseas as a soldier and it really bothers a person to see this in Canada. So it's time for the 2nd annual Toy Drive to make sure that every child has something to wake up to. So please bring a new unwrapped toy or a gift certificate to the Legion. They need stuff for all ages of kids at the Salvation Army. We can do it Branch 18. I would like to see a good number of van loads of toys and food this year. Last year on just 6 days notice we made a van load each of food and toys. Let's make this Christmas a merry one for all those kids who are less fortunate than us.

The food bank needs food all year round so dig deep and help your neighbors. I want to kick this year's Toy Drive off on Oct 25th at the Legion. So folks let's make this year the year Branch 18 Legion stepped up big time to help the less fortunate in Wallaceburg. Toys and food for the needy, we can do it. The food drive has to be all year around, which is unfortunate, but their need is great at the food bank. Look into your hearts folks. Any ex-soldier knows from being overseas, it's hard to see people with no food and kids going without at Christmas, so please give a helping hand to your neighbors.

Events: Monday night open mixed Cribbage League is starting on Monday Oct 5th at 7:00 pm. You do not have to be a Legion member to play. Our next general meeting is Oct 19th at 7:30 pm. It's late due to Thanks giving falling on our regular meeting night. We have the best kept secret in the Legion, our regular all year around Saturday meat draw. What could be more fun on a Saturday? Come with your friends because stating at 4:00 pm there’s Bert & Bill playing, so you can all dance. Then starting at 5:00 pm there’s the meat draws. Why you can win Sunday's dinner. Good friends, good music and maybe a free meal for the next day. Branch 18 Legion in Wallaceburg. Come check us out, you'll be glad you did.
