Legion Musing

A little about the youth....

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Well we've only had 3 children out for our Saturday morning Youth Dart League so we have to shut it down for now. If we can get another 5 or more young people to sign up we will restart it in Jan. The Sports Officer and myself would like to see this idea take off since we want to give our young people and their parents a place to come and have some fun together on a Saturday morning. You can call the Legion with your contact information for the Sports Officer whose name is Len.

While on the subject of Youth. It's Oct. and time for the Legion's annual poster, poem and essay contest. I know the Youth-Ed Chairman is going to go around to the schools with the contest information. I have seen the young people's posters in the past and we have many gifted children out there in Wallaceburg. I hope this year there's a mountain of posters, poems and essays for the Youth-Ed chairman to judge.

Halloween is coming so please keep an eye out for all the little trick or treaters on Oct 31st. I hope it's a safe one for everyone.

Speaking of children please don't forget our 2nd annual toy drive at Branch 18 in Wallaceburg. It starts on Oct 25th and will run until just before Christmas. Remember it's for the Salvation Army here in town so they can help make Christmas merry for the needy. Let's make sure that all the kids in Wallaceburg wake up to a toy on Christmas Day.

Events:
The Poppy campaign flag raising will be held at 1:00am on Oct 30th at the Municipal office downtown. Please come out for this. Dress is blues and greys plus berets. If you do not have the uniform then come out in your regular clothes. Please remember we hand out Poppies. They are not sold. If you wish to donate thanks that is great and it helps so many Veterans and their families. If not that's fine don't feel guilty it is a way of remembering those who fell defending this great country called Canada and those who serve or have served. Please remember to wear the Poppy with respect over your heart.
