Legion Musing

November is busy month for Branch 18

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Our monthly meeting was very productive, much was covered and there were even a couple of new faces in the crowd. You know we'd love to see even more new faces so come on don't be shy. Several major things are happening in the next few weeks. First our 2nd annual Christmas Toy and Food drive started Sunday Oct 25th. We will be accepting new toys and food as well as money donations. Any money donated will be used to purchase new toys. If you have almost new toys we will accept those as I am told they will be offered to those needing help as an extra toy.

The Poppy Campaign sign up board is up in the clubroom. Please come in or call the bar steward to get your name on the board. You do not have to be a member to help distribute poppies. You will be given a Legion ribbon indicating that you are volunteering. The Poppy campaign flag raising is Friday Oct 30th at 10:00am. The Mayor is coming, as well as someone from the MPP Maria Van Bommel's office. Those who are not on duty at the various stores please come out. It's ok if you do not have a uniform, come in civilian dress. The Campaign is Oct 30th and 31st this year.

Nov 8th at 10:00am is our annual Church parade at Knox on Wellington St. Nov 9th is a very busy day. First the high school is holding their annual Remembrance assembly. This year they will be honouring the Korean War Veterans and Al Mann. The assembly will be at the Cenotaph weather permitting. It should be amazing to see so many of our youth at the cenotaph. If it is raining it will be at the high school gym. Korean Veterans, Chris Drew wishes to hear from you and asks that you make an effort to come so the students can honour and thank you for your service or you may contact me and I will pass your name on to him.

Also later on Nov 9th our Zone commander is coming for his annual inspection of Branch 18. Everyone please make an effort to attend the meeting at 7:30pm . Also at the meeting we at Branch 18 are presenting a bid to host the District A 2011 fall convention here in Wallaceburg. We have never done this before and the President and all the Executive are excited about hosting this event. So come on Branch 18 and show your support for this cause. Nov 11th is our annual ceremony at the UAW Hall on Elm St, which is the light on Dufferin Ave at Taylor Variety Store. This year the new radio station 99.1 FM will be airing it live. If you can't make it to the hall you can listen in on the radio. That’s 99.1 FM.

Saturday Nov 14th is chicken and sliders. Music by Allen James starting at 5:00pm. $8.00 per person Tickets at the bar or call to reserve. Lots of good food and fun at Br.18 the friendliest Legion in town. New Year’s Eve tickets will be available soon. Get your tickets and make your reservations.
