Legion Musing

Big thanks for food and toy drive!

Tuesday, December 8, 2009

Well it's the final days of the toy and food drive. I want to thank all my elves who helped and a big thank you to Goodwill in Wallaceburg and Chatham who jumped on board early to help. The used toys will be handed out. I must also thank Goodwill since on a regular basis they call for us to pick up food for the Legion's year round food drive. Until the need goes away Branch 18 will have a year round food drive to help the Salvation Army food bank here in town. With that said please bring a non-perishable food item with you when you come to the Legion. Let's work together to help our neighbors who need our help. I want to say a big thank you to Branch 18's Ladies Auxiliary for their help with toys and food. To all the members of the Legion who gave toys and food, thank you. You are great, this is what the Legion is about helping Veterans, their dependents, widows and the community itself.

Now I want to pass a message to all Veterans several things 1) If you are having trouble with money, there are programs to help you get food etc. I want you to either call the Legion at 519-627-6663 and leave me a message so I can help you or phone 1-866-522-2122 and talk to Veterans Affairs Canada. They now and for the past year have had programs in place to help needy Veterans. 2) Allied Veterans as of Jan 1st 2010: they are extending the same programs to you which we Canadian Veterans have. 3) Please all Veterans remember you do not have to be a Legion member for the Legion to help you. We help all Veterans members or not. Please contact us. Either myself or the Service Office will return the call and we are here to help you.

Events: Saturdays from 4:00pm until 7:00pm is Branch 18's best kept secret. Our Saturday afternoon meat draw, live entertainment, draws for meat, good times, good friends at the friendliest Legion in town come join us. New Years Eve Branch 18 is a good place to ring in the new year. $25.00 per person Larry Flynn Just Country boys are playing and a late night meal. Call to reserve your tickets.
