Legion Musing
Hoping for a dry February
Tuesday, February 2, 2010
We are coming up on Feb and with that let's hope Wallaceburg stays dry this year. Of course we at the Legion stand ready to help in any way we can should it flood again. But all the same it hopefully will stay dry. Well it's busy for the month of Feb. There's our first annual Valentine's Day brunch from 9:00am until 2:00 pm. The bar upstairs will be open at 11:00am. Love will be in the air at Branch 18 Wallaceburg. I know for sure about this.Executive and general meetings are on Feb 8th, please make an effort to attend these meetings they are important. Something coming up in April is nominations for the entire Executive from top to bottom. We need some good people to step up as a number of people are retiring from the executive. I'd like to see some younger people who have been here for a minimum 1 year to come make a difference. A number of key positions need filling and I know there are people who can do the job. However we need to see you at the meetings.
For those of you who are fairly new let me explain. Every April we nominate people from President on down to Executive which can be 6 or more. Should the need be there will be elections before the May meetings. The results will be announced at the general meeting. Then come the last Friday of May is the installation of Officers. We join up with Dresden Branch 113 each year. Last year this was held in Dresden, this year it will be here in Wallaceburg at Branch 18. It is a nice event and I would encourage family members to come out to this and show support. Now one thing I'd like to see change folks, is people helping on those committees. Too often it is just the chairperson on that committee.
Many hands make the task easier. Surely some of you have an hour so two you can help with? Come talk to any Executive member, the President, myself, our Second Vice Bill Bechard or Secretary/Treasurer Velda Green. We can point you to the right person or committee which you might be interested in.
Events: Don't forget every Saturday is our meat draw with Live entertainment. Something new is trying a new band each month. Music, meat draw, dancing and a good time at Br.18 Wallaceburg. You can call us at 519-627-6663 to find out more information on what's happening at Wallaceburg's friendliest Legion.
