Legion Musing
Let's get our dues paid
Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Feb is almost over, I have found out that there are a number of you who still have not paid your membership dues. Your dues need to be paid before Jan 1st each year. Now I understand some of you might think that it is payable a year from when you joined us. But no it's before Jan 1st that you need to pay. The dues get pro rated as the year goes on with the amount paid being reduced. I know talking with some senior Executive members we'd like to see that kick in after March each year, but it's June. So please make an effort to get paid up today. If you are in arrears you cannot participate in any sports, meetings, or elections, nor will you receive your Legion magazine. Please contact the Legion to make sure that you are up to date on your dues.Becoming a member of the Legion means that you care about Veterans, their families, their Widows and importantly helping the local community. That is the four cornerstones of the Legion. We here at Branch 18 in Wallaceburg try to help where we can. When it comes to community service well, to that end we have a year around food drive to help the needy. We offer up our hall free of charge to community groups, support groups, charities and non-profit groups. This includes such groups recently as the Arts Council and the Navy League holding fundraisers. In fact any group who can show need for free usage and fulfill our requirements is allowed to apply and use our hall. We'd like to help more, all you have to do is write up a letter explaining who you are what you do what your need is and what dates you need the upstairs for. Also please include your contact info. You then address it to the Branch 18 Executive drop it off at the bar at our executive meeting which is the second Monday of each month we will review it and approve it.
Events: Jan 28 is a Jamboree at the Legion, please call for details on tickets. Every Saturday is our meat draws, live entertainment, dancing and you might win Sunday's supper. Our next general meeting is March 8th at 7:30 pm. Please come out and make a difference at the Legion, also April is nominations so please come on out.
