Legion Musing

Message from the President

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

This is another of those strange things which happen when I write a column. At this time of year I usually post a message from the President of Branch 18 Legion in Wallaceburg.... well this year I am the President. So without further ado.

As the new President and being one of the Veterans here at Branch 18 in Wallaceburg, I wish to first say a big Thank You to all the members of Br.18 in placing your trust in me. We have a beautiful Legion here in Wallaceburg at the forks of the Sydenham river on Quality Point. I would ask that the members remember a few things about the Legion. Which is the four cornerstones of the Legion: Service to: 1 is Veterans, 2 is their Families, 3is their Widows and finally 4 is Community Service. It is important to remember these things as they define what the Legion is all about. I look at things at the Branch and I know we have done much in the last few years towards community service. However our year around food drive needs continuing donations. You know it does not take much to bring in a can or a package of non-perishable food anytime you come into our beautiful Legion. It helps so many people locally and the saddest part is the high number of children who need our help. We have collected a lot of food at Christmas as well as toys. In fact the 10 van loads of toys we donated meant that for the first time, the Salvation Army did not have to go to an outside source to get toys. In fact thanks to the hard work done this past Christmas, every child got at least one thing that they had wanted for Christmas. This is what Legion is about. I am proud of the work being done here by all the members and all the volunteers.
Please keep up the excellent work. Thank you one and all. I heard so many wonderful comments about our Legion during Dragon Boat Races. Please keep up the wonderful work you are doing at Branch 18.
