Safe Crossing Day a Success!
Tuesday, November 17, 2009
On Saturday, November 7th, over 200 people participated in CN’s Safe Crossing Day, held at the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village. The free family event attracted participants from various local communities. The new 99.1 CKXS was onsite broadcasting live. It was a warm and sunny day, perfect for the BBQ, rides aboard Obie the CN safety train, and bicycle riding around the Safety Village. Families participated in the Passport to Safety, which included railway safety cartoons by CN Police Services, bicycle safety and helmet fittings by Chatham-Kent Police Services, and interactive model displays by the Chatham Model Railroad Club and Old King Coal Railworks.
The Children’s Safety Village presented rail safety skits created and performed by their Safety Squad, a group of high school volunteers who donate their time regularly. Special thanks to Bubba-Q and to all volunteers who assisted in making the event run smoothly. Congratulations to Ms. Poag of Blenheim whose son won a Nintendo DS Lite just for completing a Passport to Safety.
The day was made possible thanks to a partnership with Safe Communities and sponsorship by CN. Safe Crossing Day is part of Safe Kids Canada and CN’s Safe Crossing Week 2009, a national educational campaign focused on keeping Canadian children safe at railway crossings and away from trains.
