(It was a happy gathering at the offices of North Kent Mutual in Dresden last Thursday morning as a large number of the area's non profit organizations gathered to receive $1,000 grants from the company, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2010 and has promised to award $100,000 to worthwhile charities during the year. Thursday's cheque presentation ceremony was the first of the year, but others will follow, as well as other special events to mark the company's special birthday. cktimes' photographer John Gardiner attended this special event and snapped these photos.....)
 
DRESDEN - North Kent Mutual is formally kicking off a year of activities that have been carefully planned to commemorate this landmark anniversary.
 
This event consisted of several cheque presentations to a selection of successful Community Grant Program applicants which include: 
 
Meals on Wheels                      Operating Needs
Wabash Women’s Institute       New Tables and equipment for hall
U-Turn Ministries                     Creative Arts program for Youth
Dresden Legion Branch 113     Refurbish small lounge
Let’s Cook                               Kitchen Equipment for children’s program

North Kent Mutual Chairman Paul Badder notes that the year 2010 will see the company hosting various special events to celebrate the 100 year landmark. Donations to locally based organizations will highlight North Kent’s commitment of remaining a strong supporter in the community. In addition to the Community Grant Program, several large donations will be awarded to a number of groups that have been identified by the 100th Anniversary committee, which will include two local high schools.
