So buy your tickets. They will be on sale all week; you don’t want to miss out on this. The community is welcome to come see the game at the Dresden Arena on Friday, March 12 at 12:30. LKCS is one of the 280 schools from across the province to access funding to initiate a new physical activity program. The Ontario Federation of School Athletics Associations providing this opportunity in an effort to motivate students to incorporate physical activity into their lifestyles, in the hopes of producing healthier, more active young people and adults. This is the third year of the Trillium “Try Day” program, which assists schools to develop new, non-traditional activities, and LKCS is pleased to participate this year.
This year, LKCS has used this funding to purchase a set of Tchoukball equipment. Tchoukball is a fast paced, non-contact sport, which is very popular in Europe (where it originated). It involves two heavy-duty rebound surfaces at opposite ends of the court. The object of the game is to throw the ball off the rebound surface so that after the ricochet, the opposing team can’t catch it. See the picture of the game below.
“The students really enjoy it” says Phys. Ed. Teacher Derek Kominek. “It takes them a little bit to get the hang of the game, but once they do, it’s a blast. Very few sports work as well in a co-ed class as this one does.”
For more information about the school project contact Derek Kominek at LKCS. Full details on the “Try Day” grants can be found on the OFSAA website (www.ofsaa.on.ca).
