artsVest IS COMING TO CHATHAM-KENT - FREE WORKSHOP

Day One - at Studio One in the Cultural Centre
12:30 – 1:30 p.m.           artsVest Launch
2:00 – 3:00 p.m.            The Roundtable Forum
Animated conversation and friendly debate will ensue as guests mingle, engage and network during this informative and fun community gathering. A lively discussion featuring arts, heritage, business and civic leaders on a single exciting topic that unites them all. 
Audience participation is encouraged.  At the conclusion of the Roundtable, a short introduction will be made to the artsVest Program: A Tool for Incentivizing Business Sponsors.

Day Two - at the Chatham Armoury
9:00 – 3:30 p.m.            Workshops
Designed for small to mid-sized arts & heritage organizations that are beginning to approach businesses for sponsorship and want to enhance their success by developing best practices from the start. The workshops are practical and relevant, with a strong focus on the local economy. Join our workshops and make sponsorship work for you.

SCHOLARSHIP OFFERED FROM THE THAMES ART GALLERY
 
The Thames Art Gallery is offering a one thousand-dollar scholarship award to a Chatham-Kent secondary school student who intends to further their education in the Arts (visual arts, fine craft, or commercial/graphic arts). The recipient must be planning to attend a post-secondary institution (college, or university) full-time in the fall of the year following graduation.  
 
Eligible students must submit a portfolio of work to the Thames Art Gallery no later than Wednesday, March 31 at 5:00 PM. Students must also register for an interview with the Gallery Curator by the submission deadline. Portfolios must include a minimum of four pieces to a maximum of 8 pieces of work. Students must also fill out an application form, available at the Thames Art Gallery and Cultural Centre Box Office.  Please note only students who have applied to a post-secondary institution should apply for the Thames Art Gallery Scholarship Award. 
 
The recipient of this year’s scholarship will have one of their works featured on the poster and invitation for High Class Art 2010. The work selected for the invite and poster will also be included in the High Class Art Exhibition. The recipient of the scholarship will be announced at the High Class Art opening reception, Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 7:00 PM.

ROCK THE THAMES ART GALLERY!
 
Calling All High School Musicians!
Performing Opportunity at the Thames Art Gallery!
 
In an attempt to help foster high school artists and musicians, the Thames Art Gallery would like to offer a performing opportunity for Secondary School Music bands/ensemble/solo artists. This opportunity is open to those musical performers who are currently attending a Chatham-Kent secondary school. Not all students need attend the same school nor does a band/ensemble/solo artist need to be supported by the school.
 
Students must submit a demo CD to the Thames Art Gallery no later than Wednesday, March 31 at 5:00 PM. The band or ensemble should have at least 20 minutes of music prepared to perform. Application forms are available at the Thames Art Gallery.
 
The band/ensemble that is chosen for this opportunity will be featured on the poster and invitation for the 2010 High Class Art exhibition. The performance will be in Studio 1 of the Chatham Cultural Centre, Thursday, May 20, 2010 at about 8:00 PM. The group or solo artist chosen will be paid for their performance.

CK ON THE EDGE SEEKING ARTISTS TO PERFORM
 
CK On the Edge, Chatham-Kent’s newest traditional and contemporary summer arts festival due to hit downtown Chatham July 8 – 18, is looking for artists in any genre.  Music, dance, drama, spoken word, film, literature – whatever your thing is, you could be a part of the excitement of this inaugural festival.
 
Application forms can be found on the website at www.ckontheedge.com – just click on the tab called “Artists” and download the form.  Please complete the form and send it, a proposal of your potential performance along with a bio and sample of your work.  The deadline to apply is Tuesday, April 6, 2010 with decisions being made by April 23rd.  We will be announcing our line up at a special event on Saturday, May 15th.  More details on that fundraiser will be coming soon.  Paper applications are also available at the Chatham Cultural Centre Box Office between 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
 
Don’t hesitate!  Get your package ready and send it in right away.  Based on the preliminary response from local artists, competition for spots will be fierce.
