Happy Birthday Lord & Lady Baden- Powell
Its closely approaching; February 22nd is just around the corner and were all gearing up to celebrate another wonderful year.
For those of you reading this and scratching your head saying who is Lord & Lady Baden-Powell? The answer is very simple; theyre the founders of the Guiding & Scouting Movements. Many years ago, Robert Baden-Powell decided that boys need something to do to keep them out of trouble and learning new things, outdoor things, survival things, life skills, and so much more; so he wrote a book about it. Shortly after writing his first book a group of boys decided to take up his teaching and later approached Lord BP about starting a group to help teach his plan. In 1909, the first Scout jamboree was to be held at the Crystal Palace in London, England; the word got out and a group of girls got wind of it. Feeling they could do anything a boy could and wanting to have the same great fun; they decide to attend the jamboree. Seeing there was a need, BP decided to enlist the help of his sister and start a group for the girls, later becoming the Girl Guides. In the years to come he met his wife Olivia, a young woman who shared his love for outdoors. She soon became a great voice in the Girl Guide movement.
Why February 22nd?
Both Lady & Lord Baden-Powell shared the same Birthday. They may have been born in different years but on the same day. So each year the two movements get together and share the memories of their founders through service, dinners and special events. We hope you have a chance to share in one of these events.

In the spot light this week.
Have you ever wonder whats happens inside a meeting. Lets take a look into the lives of the #4 Chatham Scouting group. I hear theyve got quiet the busy schedule over the next few weeks.
Beavers are planning a few tripsin the coming weeks - a visit to the Black History Museum at the Wish Center and the Chatham -Kent museum.
It looks like theyre going to be going crazy with the craft cupboard too; Valentine crafts, St Pattys crafts, and many more. In the coming weeks, the colony will participate in a Church Parade and a banquet to celebrate BP Week. No time to stop, with this colony as they will be staring their Beaver Buggies soon and then its off to the Whitetail Sleepover.
Next up, the Cubs and it looks like this pack has a full plate too; participating in Winter Cub Carnival out at Cataraqui, a trip to KCCC to have a night of archery, and a workshop out at Home Depot. The Pack will be welcoming in new members shortly as the White Tails more up to become Tender paws. The pack will be attending BP week programs with the Beavers and Scouts. After finishing BP Week programs are finished the pack will be moving onto learning about the Jungle Book Theme and working toward earning a few Cub stars. Way to go guys and gals.

The Scout Troop looks like they are well on their way for the Switzerland trip; if you see this group out fundraising, dont forget to stop and say hello or help them out with a donations toward their big trip. The World Jamboree is on its way! For on the troop is working on Scout Challenges and badge work in and around their trips to Londons Boulder Mountain, KCCC for a night of archery, and spring camp at Cataraqui.

Notes from #4 Group Committee All groups will be participating in the 2010 Challenge at Thames Grove Conservation Area in Chatham and a few youth will be taking part in the Invitational Rally in April. Its all about fun!
