Letters to the Editor
To the editor,
Terry Fox Run day 2009 was another great day for cancer research! When all was counted, we expect the Dresden community run total to surpass the $23,700 mark (and that is not even counting the school totals.) What a wonderful day and what wonderful results. Our participants have made the run their own personal journey, honouring Terry and committing to cancer research in numbers beyond all expectations.
Our day was blessed with the willing contributions of many service groups: Branch 113 Legion, Dresden Rotary, Dresden Kinsmen and Dresden Firefighters. Several businesses in town continue to make donations and provide support over the years and we extend our humble thanks to them as well. Thank you to Park Street Place and their residents, all local schools and Dresden Minor Hockey, each group showed great dedication to their participants and to the Terry Fox Run.
We continue to be inspired by our cancer survivors, and would like to show our appreciation to Dave Houston and Cherie DeBurger for stepping to the forefront and sharing their stories of triumph over cancer. (Just like Terry did during the Marathon of Hope)
In Ontario a tally of $11.7 million was posted from this year’s effort, an increase over 2008. The foundation continues to focus their attention on minimizing costs while maximizing returns, which translates into .87 cents of every dollar going directly to cancer research. By participating and contributing to the Terry Fox Run, you bring Terry’s dream to life, move it closer to fulfillment and change the lives of thousands in a single day.
Many thanks,
Cindy Brewer, Volunteer Coordinator and the Dresden Terry Fox Run Committee.
