A FUN SEASON IN THE MAJORS

If you are a baseball fan then this season will be a great one for you! Major League Baseball is on fire this year with all sorts of great races already!
Let's start with the AL East. The Jays are ripping the skin off the ball and have some great pitching.....they lead the AL with 18 wins. Jays fans were looking for this two years ago but the injuries are healed and the young kids are ready to play.
The Yankees may be in third place right now but they are always contenders in the East. Newcomers like Nick Swisher, Mark Teixeira, CC Sabathia and AJ Barnett will be huge contributors to another pennant!
As much as it pains me to say this, you can't count the Red Sox out as they have 10 wins already at Fenway.
The AL Central show Kansas City rolling along after a few years of rebuilding. They have more wins now than they had in the middle of June last year.
The Tigers will always be contenders. They have strong pitching with some great names in the line-up and one of the best managers in the game.
The Twins are a team that might appear mediocre until they run off a twelve game winning streak.
In the West, Ichiro is leading his Mariners to a solid start as they are 15-10, including a winning record on the road.
Texas and the Angels are off to slower starts but like Mine That Bird they have the power to close.
In the National League Florida started the season off like gangbusters but have only won three of their last ten.
The Phillies haven't changed much over last year but need the rabbit's foot and horseshoe to repeat as World Series Champs.
In the Central The Cards have lost only three times at home and are looking very much like a Championship team.
Milwaukee will be dark horse but they have some great players and a very solid line-up of pitchers from starts to closer.
In the NL West there is nobody else.....The Dodger will go coast to coast as they have one of the best skippers in baseball history and have a very potent line-up.....say what you want about Manny Ramirez but he can smack the ball. They are 10-0 at home and won't lose 12 games all year at Chavez Ravine. They are the real deal.
I am looking forward to a rematch of the 1977 and 1978 World Series!
I love that the boys of summer are plying their trade because it makes everything right in the world when kids are going to the parks to watch their heroes play ball.
Baseball is a thinking man's game and you can get lost in the intricacy for a few hours.....it is a sweet escape.
The kid in everyone comes out at the ball park.....on and off the diamond!
Gary Patterson was born and raised in Chatham-Kent. He grew up in Thamesville and now lives in Chatham. Patterson was Sports Director at Beaver Communications an Blackburn Radio for over 15 years. Gary is also the track announcer at Dresden Raceway as well as some appearances at Windsor Raceway. He has played all sports inclduing being a mermber of three OBA Championship baseball teams in Thamesville and has also played hockey and football.
