Wallaceburg sports community struts its stuff at annual Hall of Fame event
The Oak's Inn in Wallaceburg was the place to be on Saturday night as the Wallaceburg and District Sports Hall of Fame held its 31st annual Banquet and Induction ceremony. The event is held each year to induct past sporting heroes into the Sports Hall of Fame and to honour local residents who have made a big difference in the sports community over the past year.......This year's guest speaker was former NHL player Brad May, while Pete McCarter acted as MC and Chris Baertsoen chaired this year's event. Inductees to the Hall of Fame included the 1980-81 Hornet Oldtimers hockey team, baseballer John Floin as the Masters Classic inductee, former Recreation Manager Harold Ribson as the Builder, Jacqueline Hogan as the Ladies Inductee and hocket star Mike Hinnigan as the Male Athlete Inductee......Some of the annual inductees were Cale Shephard, Justine DeCock, Jonah Pataki, Lee Purnell, the Wallaceburg TSN/Kraft Foods Tour and Beth Fischer and Rob MacLachlin.......cktimes photographer John Gardiner dropped by the baquet and snapped these photos....
CHATHAM-KENT STEPS UP for United Way
Tony Walsh and his wife Emily Durbin are the Co-Chairs for the THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING United Way Chatham-Kent 2011 Annual Campaign. Their Touchdown event was held in conjunction with a celebration for the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s funding for UWOCK and the resulting re-launch of “The 425” – United Way’s Centre for Community Innovation.
Friends of the Tecumseh Monument unveil fundraising plans
The Friends of the Tecumseh Monument (FOTM)have launched a fundraising campaign for $4.2 million to transform the eight-acre site of the Battle of the Thames at which the great Shawnee Chief Tecumseh was killed. Proposed plans for the current monument site east of Thamesville include a new monument to Tecumseh and development of an open-air museum offering interpretation of the story of this vital battle of the War of 1812.
Foundation of CKHA’s 1st Annual CKHA’s Got Talent a Tremendous Success
CHATHAM, ON (Tuesday, January 31, 2012): On Saturday, January 28, 2012, the Foundation of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) hosted its 1st Annual CKHA’s Got Talent at Club Lentinas, raising more than $7,500 for the Cardiac Monitoring System Campaign.
Congratulations 2011 Heritage Award Winners!
Chatham-Kent Council recently approved the recipients of the 2011 Mayor’s Heritage Preservation Awards. Five awards will be given to Chatham-Kent citizens for their commitment to preserving our community’s architectural heritage. Heritage Chatham-Kent, a council-appointed municipal heritage committee, administers the program and recommended the five recipients to Council. Eight nominations were received from throughout Chatham-Kent and the winners are:
Blenheim Youth Centre rocks to sound of local bands
This past Friday the BYC held a rock concert. Five local bands performed for nearly 100 people. The bands performed for over three hours. Aside from a little ringing in the ears the concert went off without a hitch. Thank you to Emperors Among Kings, Diesel, We Sleep At Dawn, Anu Beginning, and Lost In Line.
Chatham-Kent Dickens Fellowship to Participate in Queen Elizabeth’s Reception to celebrate the bicentennial anniversary of Charles Dickens’ Birth
On February 14, 2012, Dr. Raymond Bernreuter, chair of the Chatham-Kent Dickens Fellowship, will join colleagues from Dickens’ Fellowships across the UK, and the British Commonwealth at a reception to be held at Buckingham Palace in London, England. The purpose of the reception is to honour the memory of Charles Dickens, born on February 7, 1812 and one of the greatest novelists of all time.

All students may now breathe a sigh of relief. First semester exams are officially over! With the last of exams on Wednesday morning, students at LK were feeling joyful and excited for semester two. As the staff is busily marking, students get a four day weekend. Thursday, Friday and Saturday students will be enjoying they’re time away from school. Semester two starts Monday February 6th which is also exam review day.
Historic Milestone for Longest Running Pork Conference in North America set to present “Celebrating 50 Years”
Planning started in early 1962 with the first conference held on February 2, 1963 with 400 participants attending. The Swine and Pork industry was looking to the future with the vision of progressive producers, industry leaders and the assistance of the now Ridgetown Campus and OMAFRA staff, the “South Western Ontario Swine Conference” was born with the theme “Next Year’s Model”.
‘Men of the Deeps’ comes to the Chatham Capitol Theatre!
The Men of the Deeps is a choir of working and retired coal miners from the island of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia and are North America’s only coal miners’ choir. The ages of the men range from the mid-thirties to the upper-seventies, about one-quarter of which have been with the group since it was organized in 1966.

Too Cool for School! Chatham-Kent Museum March Break Program
“We’re gonna get messy and a little bit crazy in this program!” says Deanna Bullard, Museum Education Coordinator. Deanna has looked at all the subjects that kids learn in school and picked out cool projects and activities that teachers just won’t let kids do! For the science themed day, students will be mixing water and corn starch to see what it makes. Will it be a solid, liquid, or both? Cool!

Those most likely to contract an STI are youth between the ages of 15-24 who engage in unsafe sexual activities, putting them at an increased risk for HIV/AIDS, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Genital Herpes and Human Papillomavirus (Genital Warts), to name a few.
